This review is from: Gentle Conquest: The Botanical Discovery of North America (Library of Congress Classics) (Hardcover)
A beautiful book - mechanically, textually, and artistically. In describing details of botanical discovery since Linnaeus, it makes interesting and alive what could easily be dry subject matter. The text touches on European intellectual history, and some American history in the process. It's filled with magnificently printed historical color illustrations of plants from the Library of Congress collection. Printed on heavy paper, very nicely bound, quality dust jacket, bookmark ribbon woven to the spine - a real collector's item
