Gentle Leader Calming Cap - Medium Pattern

I am a vet tech and I have used this many times in the veterinary clinic, even used the petite on cats and rabbits. It generally does calm a pet, though not every pet. We use it for general restraint of the fractious dog, nail trims and blood draws to name a few things. Just a note the medium is the most common size we use and it is suppose to fit snug. It is based on the size of the dogs head not body weight. For instance bulldogs need a large and a doberman a medium.

From the manufacture website sizes are as follows.

Petite: Most Toy Breeds, Puppies

Small: Shelties, Most Small Terriers, etc.

Medium: Cattle Dogs, Female German Shepherds & Rotties, etc.

Large: Mountain Dogs, Male German Shepherds & Rotties, etc.

This is the second Gentle Leader Calming Cap that I have purchased. I love the way that they work but have noticed that the large is very large and the medium is on the small size. The large is too big for our 77 pound Lab mix and the medium is too small however it will fit on our 36 pound Springer mix. We decided to go with the large so that our large dog would be more comfortable and have not regretted our decision.
I would recommend this to anyone with a reactive dog! What a great idea for desensitizing your dogs' environment.

After enduring my Catahoula's barking and pacing in the car for years, I had nearly given up . The only solution seemed to be to incarcerate her in a box on longer trips . Then A trainer suggested the calming cap - and it eliminated 80% of the problem . She still barks a bit at the beginning of the trip and when an especially big truck passes us ...but she and I can travel together in the car for hours and enjoy sharing the trip. Thanks you, gentle leader for this good idea...

The Calming Cap is awesome! My dog is a huge barker in the car. He barks at almost everything dogs, bikes, motorcycles, trucks and buses. He not only barks but growls and lunges at the window. His former trainer suggested me trying a calming cap. I give him lots of treats and praises whenever I put it on him (especailly the first time). This really helps so he thinks it's a treat everytime he puts it on. It's made of a mesh stretchy fabric that he can still see out of..so he's not blinded. He is a 65 pound Boxer/Shepherd/Greyhound mix. The medium fit perfect on him.

As soon as I put it on him in the car I saw an immediate change. He did not bark or whine. I have used it in the car 8 times since then and he has not made a single sound. He sits in the middle of the backseat and looks out the windshield. It's not just the barking, it's his whole demenor. He's so quiet...before he was running around the backseat from window to window.

I would recommend this product to everyone that has a barker in the car. This is an AMAZING product!!

After 6 years and hundreds of dollars (really - hundreds!) wasted on products that failed to help my dog ride in the car without freaking out, I've finally found the only thing that actually WORKS. Better yet, it cost less than $20. I bless whoever invented this modest little device.

I have a Doberman who fought getting her nails done with the dremel and would even try to bite it or the hand that held it. I had to muzzle her and then have someone hold her in place while I leaned on her to keep her still in order to dremel her nails. Needless to say this was very stressful for all of us.

I purchased the light colored calming cap in size Medium for her and with lots of patience, love and treats I can now do her nails without any altercations. In fact, when she sees me get the cap out, she hops up to her nail grooming place and lays down. She does not bite or try to run away so no one has to hold her. She is always happy when they are done, but she no longer fights which has alleviated all of the drama and stress.

This was recommended by the animal behaviorist at Cornell University for our Old English Sheep dog that had a bad experience at the vet. This is just what she needs she actually let them take blood with no issues. A great product it's very easy to get on and off. A medium fits a 50 lb Old English Sheepdog

We purchased the Calming Cap to help our 4 month old Rough Collie with motion sickness. He was experiencing severe drooling and vomiting. After putting the Calming Cap on he initially drooled slightly. We took a break, got him out, walked around a bit, back in the car (at this point pup does not want to get in car), Calming Cap back on. No drooling, but not relaxed either. We repeated the stop/walk sequence about three times, and by the third time he willingly got in the car, got his Calming Cap on, curled up and went to sleep. No more drooling, no more whining, (best yet) no more vomiting, and no drugs needed!

As I type this we have this on all 3 dogs. They were all growling and acting up, especially while we eat and at the moment they are all sleeping. Amazing. On my doxie mix she has a small. On our 4 pound dogs they are a medium.

The cap was not true to size. A med. was way to big for my cockers.
