A Bittersweet Masterpiece of the Sentiment of Love and War,
By Jennifer Kaplan (Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gentle Rain: A Civil War Drama (Paperback)
This play will take your breath away. It did mine. Obviously written by a brilliant historian and gifted playwright, this piece by Terry Kroenung's is not to be overlooked. It encompasses the brutal reality of war, lost loves, resentment, patriotism, and eternal light. This incredible piece affords any director and the actor and actress a welcome challenge including: allusions to Shakespeare's works, dramatic gender bending (for the role of "Julia"), songs of war, post traumatic war shock, pain of a debilitating wound, and much more. If you are a history buff, a serious actor or actress, a director, you will indeed appreciate this gritty, witty, and uniquely sentimental play.

Compelling Historical Play Well Worth the Reading,
By Nancy Roy (Loveland, Co United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gentle Rain: A Civil War Drama (Paperback)
The two characters is this Civil War drama translate mere history into compelling human interaction. The Confederate sergeant's physical anguish finds expression in his bravado-turned-compassion for the young Yankee destined to spend his final hours with him. True to history, true to the universal human response, this tightly focused play zooms in on what war is about, what we are about. The text offers rewards in the reading and promises a haunting impact in the playing.
