Life-Changing Bible Study, October 11, 2011
This review is from: The Gentle Savior - Seeing Jesus Through the Eyes of the Women Who Met Him (Paperback)
The Gentle Savior Bible study has helped me feel more confident in who I am, knowing that Jesus truly loves us where we are and for who we are. I have used what I have learned in this study to help other women who are struggling with their own hurts, habits, and hang-ups.

Does God Really Love Me? Yes., October 11, 2011
This review is from: The Gentle Savior - Seeing Jesus Through the Eyes of the Women Who Met Him (Paperback)
Lynn Bell wants women, particularly those experiencing a feeling of broken relationship to God due to misconceptions, preconceptions, guilt and other factors, to see God's nature as compassionate, gentle, forgiving, and comforting.
"The Gentle Savior" helps women answer the question, "Does God really love me?" While they discover that he does indeed love them, they'll learn two very important things: (1) how very much he loves women, and (2) how to study the Bible more deeply and thoroughly so that they can know this - for themselves, in their heart of hearts.
Bell helps women see Jesus as the gateway to understanding God's nature. She provides a series of New Testament studies of Jesus' interactions with women we ordinarily would not view as role models. In an approachable, captivating style, Bell delves into the hearts of these Bible women, examining their stories in their particular time and historical context, while finding many ways in which their stories and ours intersect.
For the "how-to" component, in each chapter Bell gives bite-sized chunks of instruction on Bible interpretation, with special attention to literary genres. Using creative approaches, such as a pop-quiz-style "How much do you already know" section, each section helpfully guides women into deeper intellectual, as well as personal, study of God's word. She engages both the right and left sides of the brain by employing this and other types of intellectual and creative exercises, which serve to expose women to further Bible knowledge and understanding.
This work is biblically instructional, yet also emotionally and spiritually engaging. I highly recommend it for either personal or small group Bible study. I would probably not highly recommended it for a large-group study, because in a large-group setting women may not feel comfortable fully exploring their own relationship with the Lord, which is a primary goal of the book.
