PA-12 vs PA-10 Dell AC Adapters,
This review is from: Genuine Dell PA-12 65-Watt AC Adapter For Dell Latitude (Electronics)
I refurbish and repair all the Dell systems for my company and see there a lot of complaints on the PA-12.
1) before purchasing an AC Adapter for you dell notebook look at back and it will tell you what adapters you can use PA-10/PA-12 some notebooks can use both. 2) the PA-10 has a higher amp rating than the PA-12 therefore if you want your notebook to charge faster and your notebook is compatible with both get the PA-10. Since this is most likely what shipped with your computer. You can also look at your old adapter. 3) Original DELL Adapters are a beater choice over the OEM one's for 2 reasons. A) the connectors are inter changeable with your pre-existing one sometimes the cord from the wall to the adapter gets damaged and good to keep if it good. B) I find that the original adapters have less issues, yes there are some OEM adapters that are good but those are usually more expensive. I hope this helps dell users in purchasing the correct adapter for their notebook.

Does not work with the D600,

This review is from: Genuine Dell PA-12 65-Watt AC Adapter For Dell Latitude (Electronics)
I ordered this for the Dell Latitude D600 - and it doesn't work with that model. I noticed when it arrived that it was a little larger than the one that came with the laptop, but tried it anyway. An error popped up on my desktop "adapter could not be identified, battery will not charge". A similar comes up on boot.

It's a little tricky I must say, they put a genuine dell product on the photo and they send you something else.
I am going to say that the price is right, the product itself works great, I have two and there still kicking after three months, so that's good. The original dell ones cost like 50 bucks and don't last. But I don't like to be misled. I contacted the seller and they said, oh, sorry, please return it for a full refund, but I need it! Nice trick! I ended up keeping it. five stars for the product one star for the trick.

Be Careful!,

This review is from: Genuine Dell PA-12 65-Watt AC Adapter For Dell Latitude (Electronics)
Be careful! I have a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop, which this is being advertising as working with. But I looked at the label included in the photo here and compared to my Dell AC adaptor. The model #s are different, but more importantly, the specs are different. Both are AC: 100-240 V; 1.5 A. Both are DC: 19.5 V. BUT...mine is DC: 4.62 A (amps) and the adaptor for sale here is 3.34 A (amps). I believe that could cause significant damage to your laptop. It was very good of the seller to include the photos, but this does not fit an inspiron 600m--at least not one sold in May 2004. Perhaps newer or older inspiron models do use this adaptor. If all the specs match your laptop, then at least you can't hurt your computer (I think...); the only remaining problem is whether or not it fits.

Very Dissatisfied Customer,

This review is from: Genuine Dell PA-12 65-Watt AC Adapter For Dell Latitude (Electronics)
I am very disappointed in the quality of this product. This is my 3rd A/C adapter purchased in the last 2 1/2 years. I purchased my A/C adapter in August and is now completely dead. I wish that I was an informed customer when purchasing this product. I guess that saying is true "you get what you pay for"...I would not waste my time or money on this product.

I ordered an adapter 6 weeks ago. The adapter did fit my Dell inspiron. I ordered a new battery at about the same time from a different company. The battery so far is fine, and the adapter worked at first (I could get almost 3 hrs out of my laptop with the combo), but now is not working. If I switch adapters, the laptop does charge, so it is not the laptop or the laptop battery. Laptop will no longer charge on the PA12 adapter I purchased 6 wk ago. I'm checking to see if there is a refund or warranty on this product.

This product was great for my computer, a Dell Inspiron 1420. The delivered item was like my original Dell AC adapter and charger but it does not look exactly lilke the picture shown. The adaptor portion is white, not black and is circular. It was only two prongs where the picture shows three. It does charge my computer and battery. My original charger model number was LA65NS0-00 and this charger was LA65NS1-00. Great for the price and delivery was very quick. I'll update if anything should go wrong in the next few months.

I've had both the PA-10 and PA-12 Dell AC adapters for my Latitude D620 that I bought in 2007. Both of those adapters were great. Loved the design, very well made, didn't think twice about them.
After 3.5 years of very heavy use, my PA-12 died. I ordered a new PA-12 from a vendor here on Amazon, and the new PA-12 arrived promptly. At first glance, it looks very similar--the shape of the transformer is the same, and the general design is the same. But, the cord that goes to the wall now has 3-prongs, whereas my old one had 2. The new wall cord is round and thick, whereas my old one was flat and thin. This means that if you wrap the cord around the transformer, this newer version is bulky and the cords are a bit of a mess. For those of you who travel with your laptop, this is quite annoying, since it becomes a big round bulge instead of a relatively flat addition to your laptop bag. The second issue is that the cable that connects to the laptop is 32" shorter! (76 vs. 44) I used to be able to sit in bed and have the transformer sitting on the floor. But with the new version, the thing doesn't even touch the floor unless I sit on the edge of the bed and the outlet is nearby. The plug is also a bit loose in the back of the laptop, so it doesn't stay in as well as the old version. Maybe the 3-prong plug makes it better or safer, but my old 2-prong PA-10 and PA-12 worked just fine. And the shorter cord is just pathetic. Maybe these are old spares that were made cheaply and are now flooding the market at low prices as newer adapters are being sold by Dell. Whatever the reason, they are junk. I have a newer Latitude E5400 that uses a "PA-3E Family" adapter (Part CM889 / 0CM889) that has the exact same output specs as the PA-10. The PA-3E has a longer cord and is better quality than the new PA-10 / PA-12 models, so it seems they aren't cutting corners on all of their adapters. I am going to look for a PA-12 equivalent in the newer PA-3E style.

This review is from: Genuine Dell PA-12 65-Watt AC Adapter For Dell Latitude (Electronics)
I purchased this for a Dell Inspiron 1520 (says right on the bottom of the laptop that this is the right adapter). The adapter was able to provide AC power but wouldn't charge the battery---the error message was "adapter type cannot be determined". I contacted Dell technical support who kept telling me that the problem was with my laptop and trying to sell me a $59 "diagnostic service". Fortunately our system support guy had an old PA-10 and PA-12 on hand. We tried them and both worked fine. Conclusion: The genuine Dell adapters cost four or five times the third-party adapters and the reasons for buying them are presumably (i) better quality; (ii) support from Dell, but based on this experience these are not very good reasons.

Good product.,
This review is from: Genuine Dell PA-12 65-Watt AC Adapter For Dell Latitude (Electronics)
I bought this product because the original AC adapter for my Dell laptop just stopped working. The original adapter was a different model than this one. My boyfriend had a spare adapter that was the PA-12 65-watt model. I used it for a couple of months and it worked great on my computer. I bought another one so I would stop using my boyfriend's. It works great and it seems like a genuine Dell product. My only complaint is about the rubber strap that keeps the cords wrapped up. If you make it too tight, the rubber will eventually tear. So, I recommend just putting it on the loosest notch and it holds just fine without tearing. I recommend this charger.
