I purchased this for my nephew (11) for summer reading. It's a very nice hardcover book with a glossy and colorful cover. The inside pages are similar to all of the "ology" books with the pull out messages, envelopes to open, little things to find and a pop up castle. Even though it's suggested for grades 2-6, It's not something most 6th grade kids will spend time reading. I would suggest this for a younger child...maybe around age 7 or 8 (depending on their reading level) It's well worth the $[...] sale price.

Candlewick Press does an amazing job of enthralling young readers. Their books are beautiful works of art and my sons spend hours enjoying every detail of these amazing books. I don't know how they can put together such a detailed book for such a low price. The Knight Guide is just as enjoyable and lovely as the OLOGY books published by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book, August 19, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Genuine and Moste Authentic Guide: Knight: A Noble Guide for Young Squires (Genuine & Moste Authentic Gdes) (Hardcover)
I got this book for my birthday from my parents and I love it. It has a cool sword that comes in and out, a pop-up visor, a castle drawbridge that goes up and down. Parts of it are funny and I learned a little more about what it took to become a knight.

This book is full of facts, pictures and interesting things for kids that want to learn more about knights. It is for older kids 8-14 and I think it will be a family favorite for making history fun.

This book is great for 6 and 7 year olds. I gave it to my son with a small playmobil knight set and they entertained him for a long, long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A WEALTH OF INFORMATION AND IT DOES NOT "TALK DOWN" TO THE YOUNG ONES., December 10, 2011
This review is from: A Genuine and Moste Authentic Guide: Knight: A Noble Guide for Young Squires (Genuine & Moste Authentic Gdes) (Hardcover)
I have to agree with a number of other reviewers here. If you want to get your child hooked on history, I cannot think of a better way to do it than through this book. It is an absolute delight. Of course I have always like stories and "things" about Knights; was hooked on the concept at a very early age, so I suppose I was particularly excited about this book. It has been around for a few years now, but is most certainly no worse for wear.

The Knight, as we are familiar with in history and fiction, is examined, explained and described in this work. Training, code of ethics, life style, historical facts and data...it is all here and presented in a way that any child from the second grade through 6th or 7th will delight in. There are plenty of fold-outs and tabs, beautiful illustrations and some very, very accurate and useful information. Subjects covered are Knighthood itself, weapons, armor, squires, horses, heraldry, jousting, castles, sieges, The Quest, and what a Knight did during peace time.

All of this is presented in small inset blurbs, colorful illustrations, tabs, foldouts and books within the book. The overall book itself is printed on very heavy double paper and is quite sturdy. It is the type of book than can be read again and again and something new will appear that was missed during prior readings. This thing simply does not get "old."

I have to admit to you that despite knowing just a bit on the subject myself, I too gleaned much information from this work which goes to show that you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks.

This is most certainly one you will want to add to your child's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandma's choice, September 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this without seeing it - on the recommendation of other Amazon readers. It is the BEST! My 7 year old grandson was so fascinated that he stopped the birthday party action to flip through it. Has been reading it ever since. It is a good challenge with lots of activities and wonderful pictures. Encourages creativity and imagination, and reading.
