Decent 3-season cover, June 28, 2011
This review is from: New Genuine Yamaha Jet Boat Accessories / SX210 / 210 Series Mooring / Trailering Cover (Non-Tower) / Fits '06 - '08 210 Series Non Tower Boats, Blue / Pt # MAR-210MC-BL-07
We just purchased and recieved this cover for our 2010 Yamaha SX210, but this review applies to essentially all covers in this class of watercraft (21'-24' Yamaha watercraft, '06-'11 models).
Most Yamaha jet boat owners realize the standard shipping cover comes with the purchase of the watercraft itself. Several expert sources, namely jetboatpilot.com, recommend the purchase of this upgraded cover based on durability and performance, and the deterioration of the shipping cover. Although this review would be best served after 1 or more years of use for this particular cover, the buyer needs to be aware of a few features of the cover that are not explicity stated in the product description.
First, this trailering cover is WAY thinner than the shipping cover, and the stitching looks very thin as well. The trailering cover claims to protect against UV rays, but it is translucent. Essentially this trailering cover consists of the same material as the bimini top (which has performed well over a year of use thus far with minimal maintenance). The material which comprises the trailering cover is waterproof. Pouring water over the exterior of the cover resulted in water running directly off the cover onto the ground, no water penetrated the cover itself. In a rainstorm, water will likely collect in the cleat "openings" on the lower part of the cover. The owners manual clearly states "do not allow snow and ice to accumulate on the cover", and the reason is likely due these openings being weak spots in the overall stitching. We will only use this cover for summertime protection, and shrink-wrap or cover w/a tarpulin in the wintertime (we winterize the boat on the trailer outdoors in the winter in Connecticut).
Secondly, there is a limited 90 day warranty against materials or workmanship. The warranty is provided by Commercial Sewing Inc. of Torrington, CT (860.482.5509), NOT Yamaha or Yamaha Marine.
Thirdly, the owners manual states "storing the boat in constant direct sunlight will shorten the life of the cover", and recommends "storing the boat in a location that exposes it to some sun and also shades it throughout the day. Preferably morning sun and afternoon shade". Right--because there are so many shady mooring spots on US Waterways.
Will definitely update this review in due course, but would welcome any comments from other purchasers.
Overall, i am impressed with its ease of installation, it's snug fit on our boat, the lightweight and water-repellant material, and its stylish appearance. However, I remain skeptical about the long-term durability, and for that it recieves four stars.
