My son received this for his 3rd Birthday and loves it. The little hammer is sized for a preschooler and is a softer rubber mallet. There are 50 wooden pieces of various shapes that children can create anything from patterns to pictures. The kit does come with a few examples on a sheet for you to get started. We did have one piece break on the third day , and Haba quickly sent me about 5 repleacement pieces, no questions ask. Hard to not expect a few broken pieces of wood considering there are little kids banging away on it. They really stand behind their poducts and being made in Germany with sustainable wood, and water based dyes, I have no worries as to the safety or footprint this toy leaves.
The nails and pieces are small,so if you have young todlers or infants, make sure to keep this toy up while they are up and about. I like that my son really has to focus in getting the nail straight and stabalized, really sharpens fine motor and hand/eye. I find this a wonder montessori type of educational toy, that is fun, creative, and battery-free. Small enough to take on travels, durable enough outlast it usefulness, and pretty enough to leave out.

This toy is a great idea but just is not very well made. This pieces break very easily when being hammered and the nails are very tiny and difficult for tiny fingers to handle. The only thing that gets five stars is the concept!

We actually got this before my son turned 2 as a gift and it has since been one of his favorite things ever! It includes real tiny nails and wooden pieces to nail to the corkboard. He doesn't really make designs or anything yet, but loves hammering the pieces in. This has long been a favorite sold by Early Learning Centre in the UK as "Tap a Shape". A great present for a young wood worker and an activity you can do as a family.

The idea is great, but my almost 3 year old, who has great fine motor skills, struggles to place the tiny nails in the tiny hole. It's like threading a needle. I don't know why they made them so small. The first time my son played with it, he swung the hammer aiming for the nail, but hit the shape instead. Of the five shapes he managed to hammer in, 2 snapped in half when he struck them with the hammer by accident. Lastly, the cork board is really small. The whole think could have been made much better. Very disappointing.

This is one of my grandson's favorite creative toy/games at preschool. The teacher told me it would be next to impossible to find this item. Amazon had it-my grandson got it for Christmas-and he is thrilled. It is fun and a good learning item that teaches shapes and patterns.

My 2.5 year old loves this. She loves the small parts, loves to make designs, loves to hammer the little nails.
Tricky part: the box doesn't work well as a container for the small parts--they get stuck and fall out and such. We added little boxes to hold the small stuff inside. |
