Egyptian Antique Dig Kit

This is fun for all ages interested in Egypt or excavation digs. The kit consists of a digging tool and block of a plaster-like material. Inside the block is one of six sets. From the box: EL-1 is a mummy with four internal organ containers; EL-2 is a pharoah bust and Egyptian bust; EL-3 is a kneeling Pharoah and Egyptian sitting queen; EL-4 is a winged Pharoah and chariot; EL-5 is an Egyptian bird and Egyptian cat; El-6 is a maid wall ornamentation and Egyptian faces ornamentation (see photo above).

However, something immediately knocks two stars off what would have been a five-star review. The pieces are made of resin, which is highly breakable. Someone who was looking at what I "dug out" minutes after removing it dropped a piece literally three inches from hand to table, and it broke on impact. This would be very disappointing especially for younger children, who had to patiently remove the artifact with a pick and brush only to have it potentially break with very little handling. When broken, the "artifacts" are white resin inside, so they look like a cheap toy if broken (if colored inside, perhaps they would look like broken relics rather than broken toys). There may also be some paint loss (chipping) during the digging-out process.

It would be great to see these kits re-created with durable metal artifacts (even inexpensive metal). The kits also don't come along with an historical explanation of what is inside the kit, which would add to the educational value.

GeoCentral, please remake this with metal artifacts and historical information . . . it would be a five-star toy!

For those interested in the digging-out process and not necessarily the items inside, you likely won't be disappointed with the artifacts' quality.

I bought this for my 5yr old daughter. She was absolutely thrilled when we received it. With help from her father she was able to dig out everything in the kit. This kept her busy for few hours until she dug out everything.

There is a couple of minor things wrong; the box was mismarked with the wrong artifacts. The toys will break easy if not careful when you are digging them out. That was my only mark down.

My son who loves Egyptian stuff was thrilled with this. I was impressed with the good quality of the objects inside. A good choice for Egypt lovers!

I gave this gift to a friend for Christmas and she loves it! She couldn't get enough of it!
