3.0 out of 5 stars Mile High Mountain
My 3 yr old absolutely LOVES his geo trax set and I have no complaints about any other part except this one. First off, it is huge and takes up a ton of space adding it to the set. And secondly, the mountain is so steep that we very rarely make it down the mountain without a derailment of the trains. Unfortunately for me, my son loves bridges and because this has one...

Mile High Mountain adds a new level of play to the Geotrax system. Now vehicles can climb high into the sky to the Chalet at the top of the mountain. The chalet can be used for storing cargo which can then be sent via chute to a collection point at the bottom.

The sloping track also crosses over a poseable tunnel. This can be used separately from the mountain. Tracks can continue higher or run back down the other side. The set also includes a diesel vehicle and a cargo crate.

The set is full of the detail that makes this such a fun system. On the mountain you can find a bird in a nest, a rabbit, stalactites, several types of trees and even pinecones. A wonderful addition to any Geotrax setup. The only downside is that in order for the mountain to fit in a smaller box, there are some screws that need to be driven during assembly as opposed to the usual snap-together operation.

This is a really cool addition to the already fun Geotrax, but not neccesarily good for 2 1/2 year olds. The whole elevation series is hard to build so the 2 1/2 year olds get bored quickly, the proper age is probably 3 1/2.

But the mountain is really fun. Two thumbs up.

My 3-year old son loves trains in general, and is obsessed with having his trains (or cars or trucks or anything with wheels) go through tunnels. So this was a great treat for him. We've got a couple of pieces of the Geo Trax world already, so this was just another add-in. It takes a little more effort to put together than the other sets we've bought so far, but no problems with it. We have a standard size train table, and adding a piece like this, or the elevated tracks (which we also have) is starting to push the limits of the train table. I guess that's an overall "warning" about the Geo Trax sets...if your kid likes them, the more you buy, the more space you need if you want to set up the whole thing. Our space is limited, so our son can only set up certain pieces at a time. And he is pretty astute to set stuff up himself. We may get him started by doing the initial setup, but he'll eventually take it apart and do a different track layout.

I bought the mountain for my son who is now almost three years old. It is great! His favorite part of the train previously was the incline with the bridge. He loves watching the train go up the big hill. He also likes dropping the cargo box down the chute of the lodge. There are a couple of cons to this however. It is very difficult for him to put together on his own at this point. Also, even with the guard rails the train can derail very easily. That being said, that problem is very easily resolved by changing the setup of the system. It is a toy he will grow with for years. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice addition, November 18, 2005

The review below is from the core set I reviewed, but I bought this unit as well and my son enjoys it ...

Geotrax is the toy my 2 year old boy likes best (he received it for his second birthday) - MUCH more fun then brio and much more age-appropriate then electric trains - also very durable and easy to put together. I've bought him many of the Geotrax accessories and like all of them (the roundhouse is the one I'd least recomend for children under 2 1/2, though it works great - the bell tower is the one I'd most recommend).

Because you can buy different trains with separate remote controls, friends can join in the play (and believe me, they will). That is a bit of a problem at this age, as they have not learned how to share, but it seems to me that this toy is helping to teach sharing more then most (though it inspires bigger jealousies and fights as well).

It is getting better and better for him - at 27 months he is able to start assembling track (though too young to do layouts - his tracks go to nowhere and I have to help him).

One major complaint is that the engines only support one speed - he is actually ready (I think) for trains that run faster.

Another major complaint is that we go through a lot of AAA batteries, since he uses it for hours every day. I really wish Fisher Price made engines that contained quality batteries and plugged into a charger!!!!!

You can also buy car track, but no electric cars ... hmmmmmm

Other then that, I'd highly recommend this toy for any curious child who likes trains, starting at age 2 (though a bit older is better).

We started building our geotrax about a year ago. We are happy with every "addition" and that Fisher-Price keeps adding buildings, tracks, ramps, trains, industry complexes and smiles to an existing good-time. My 3-year old loves Geotrax!!!!!!

We bought this and other geo trax sets for my 2 year old son. He rarely goes three days in a row without playing with it. The mountain is one of the funnest sets of geo trax. Even my 4 year old daughter loves to play. My husband and I enjoy making the track layouts. I'd say this is a toy for any age. I love that I never worry about it breaking its very sturdy. The only draw back is the more sets you get the harder it is to store. But that doesn't stop us from wanting more. It's the greatest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to Elevation Series, June 18, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

My son just turned 3, and he loves it, no problems. Of course we had to figure out the layout and put it together, but he has no problems fixing it if he accidentally hits it. Make sure you have plenty of room for this set though, its big compared to the other additions. And Geotrax as a whole takes up a whole room. This set can be set up as pictured, or it can pe used separately, you can use the curved part on another part of your configuration, and then use the mountain and ramp somewhere else. And the chalet at the top has a door that you put cargo in, and when the door shuts, it comes out the chute at the bottom.

My son received this addition to his GeoTrax after we had already bought some elevation track, so it was a great addition for us. Do not buy this toy until you have elevation track, or you'll hit a dead end. The other parents who said they added it to their elevation series and said it hits a dead end are kind of clueless, because all you have to do is take the dead end piece off and add a piece of your own from your layout. Ours connects to 2 straight pieces, a curve into the top story of the clock tower, then 2 straight pieces, a down ramp, and onto the suspension bridge.

Its a great system, and limitless. We definitely recommend.

Initially we set this up as intended. At the top of mile high mountain the train stops. Only problem...you have to go and turn it around (no reverse with geotrax) We found that by adding on the elevation sets we are able to continue the train past the mountain and resolve this issue. I also had not installed the yellow guard rails and if anyone else does this you will find a train wreck off the cliff! Gravity will take its toll and plunge the train over the edge. A great add on to a great set but I would add more than just this box to your cart.
