"... I think life is better when you have love. Not a friendly neighbor or old friends kind of love either, but a love that causes your heart to race and your toes to curl."

Maggie Marrion is just getting back on her feet after a horrible year, or two, or three. With their twentieth reunion approaching, she invites four of her closest friends from college for a mini-reunion at her beach cabin on Whidbey Island. What she doesn't expect is her best friends Selah and Quinn to play matchmaker. Will Maggie risk her heart and her quiet life for another chance at romance?

Gil Morrow, former grunge musician turned history professor, joins them as Selah's date for the weekend. With the support of old friends, a few wishing rocks, the world's largest burrowing clam, and a hot lumberjack thrown into the mix, Gil reminds Maggie she isn't too old to fall in love.

Reality Bites becomes The Big Chill when a group of Gen-X friends spend a summer weekend together sharing laughter, tears, life's ups and downs, old stories, second chances, and new beginnings in this humorous contemporary adult romance.

Geoducks Are for Lovers is the first novel in the Modern Love Stories series.

I will admit that I let my love and fascination for "Twilight" steer me on a course of all things young and in love. I've found myself over the last several years devouring many YA novels where real life is just beginning and love is new - and often times hot and sweaty. And that's OK. It's fun and often very sexy and I love it.

But as "a woman of certain age" it is rare to find myself reflected back in the pages - or computer screen - of the book where I want to lose myself for a few hours. Thank God for "Geoducks Are for Lovers." Finally a book I can relate to. Finally characters that look, and sound and feel like I know them, and better yet, I'm friends with them.

Geoducks is a love story, but instead of the newness of first love it's about second chances, and hope. And friendship. And facing life with a renewed sense of purpose and spirit. I found myself wondering if author Daisy Prescott had snuck a peek at my own journals. Maggie is a soul sister, building a good life for herself and cultivating strong and loving friendships and intriguing acquaintances. But buried under the contentment of her lovely island life is an ember of hope of something more, maybe something she lost long ago but can find again. You find yourself going along with Maggie on this reunion weekend and rooting for her to open eyes to the second chance presenting itself. It's never too late to love and be loved.

This is a wonderful debut novel from Daisy Prescott and I hope not only to see more from Prescott but maybe even more from these characters. I wasn't ready to leave Maggie's cabin. Her Pacific Northwest island home is almost as much a character in this story as Maggie, Gil, Sela, Quinn, Ben and Jo.

There are very few stories that I've read that I have difficulty putting down when I have to get other things done in my day. Usually a bookmark is placed at a stopping point and I pick up where I left off at a more convenient time. Not this book. Within the first few minutes of reading, I was instantly intrigued by Maggie, the main character, and her trusty (& adorable) furry companion Biscuit. Maggie has chosen to live the quiet island life on Whidbey Island in the Pacific Northwest, and she's submerged in an idyllic existence. Or is she? It turns out that the true answer is so much deeper than I ever expected, and one that inspired some self-reflection upon completion (along with longing for a few wishing rocks of my own, making this beautiful book cover even more affecting). I remained riveted with a cast of characters that include the island full-timers that embrace her, a hot lumberjack for a neighbor who is easy on the eyes, and a stellar array of sassy, intelligent, hilarious and trust-worthy friends who've stood by each other over the years. The lingering memories that span the course of their shared life experiences, and importance of those emotional, physical and romantic connections, flutter quietly beneath the surface of the journey, just waiting to be re-discovered. It's the reason I couldn't put this book down.

This book is incredibly touching, and the ending made me smile like I haven't in a really long time. I truly loved this story and can't recommend it enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Geoducks is the PERFECT summer read. May 15, 2013

Gil & Maggie (and the entire crew really) stole my heart with this one. Prescott did an amazing job in transporting me right out to the PNW, making me feel at home on the quaint Whidbey Island. It's not too often that you find a book that captures the essence of life in such a simple, beautiful way. Maggie is real. She has lived her life and lived it well. She has made mistakes along the way. She's a woman that you can and will connect with. She's loved and she's lost. This book is about love and friendships... Finding who you are, even when it's not who you thought you were meant to be.

Maggie and her friends took different paths but they all end up back together in the end. It's a beautiful journey...

Daisy Prescott put her heart and soul into this story and it shines through brighter with every turn of the page. I cannot wait to curl up on the beach this summer and read it for a second time!

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful love story. May 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
4.5 stars rounding up to 5 stars

Geoducks Are For Lovers was a wonderful read, it left me feeling happy and all giddy inside.

After a horrible time in her life we find Maggie Marrion getting ready to play host to her friends at her beach cabin on Whidbey Island for the weekend. They plan on having a relaxing time and catching up with each other before they meet up again for their 20 year reunion in a few months time.
But what Maggie doesn't expect is her close friends Quinn & Selah playing matchmaker and bringing Gill Morrow along.
Maggie is surprised to see Gil again after all this time, they once used to be best friends.
Maggie finds herself getting all worked up as she can't forget how close she once was with Gil and how everything changed once she came back from studying in France.
Gil is Maggie's lost love, she can't help but wonder what could have been and wondering if he felt the same.

The weekend unfolds with all the friends reminiscing and catching up with each others lives.
We also see Maggie and Gil slowly reconnecting and feeling the closeness they once shared, could these feelings grow to be more? For the first time in over 20 years they are both single, nothing is stopping them, or is there?
Will Maggie let go of her fears and learn to trust and give her heart to Gil?
If Quinn and Selah get their way this is the perfect time.

Daisy Prescott has done a wonderful job with her words in painting a beautiful picture of the island and all it's spectacular sights. I almost felt like I was sitting with the group on the balcony enjoying a glass of wine with them.
All the friends are wonderful and they bring a lot to the story.
