This is a nicely constructed wallet, sized down from a standard hip pocket design, to fit in your front pants pocket. It winds up a bit thicker than a slightly wider hip pocket wallet.

March 13, 2011 UPDATE - Firstly, thanks to all who commented on and/or voted this review as helpful. I'm glad it is! Secondly, it's been a year since I started using this wallet and it still looks good and works well!

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

I have bought and used three of these wallets because I refuse to use any other. None can compare to this wallet by Geoffrey Beene. The first one I bought in 2001 and 5 years later, it got ruined in the washing machine. It was such an excellent wallet that I immediately (the next day) went back to the same store and purchased again the same model. When that was lost I again sought out the same exact model because this wallet has so many good qualities and none bad: For one, it is an advantageous size because it is small and compact- I've never seen a wallet with such small dimensions, yet its not too small...its just big enough to put cash and credit cards inside. I hate those big bulky wallets, everytime you sit down you are nearly lopsided, and it can make your backside numb. Well that's not the case with this wallet-its ultra thin too. Furthermore, it has a silk lining inside, so its elegant, and it has a clear plastic liner for your ID, which is important if you get ID'd a lot. The craftmanship is superb. I never had any freyed threads in any of the three wallets I had, even after much use. The leather is top-grain, it will not deteriorate, (unless you put it in the washer). I'm buying a spare just in case they discontinue this line someday, it really is unique like no other.

Very nice wallet but it does not exactly match the picture. The ID flap folds from the top of the wallet not the middle as shown in the picture. I ordered one and notified Amazon it was wrong (but my son wanted it so he kept it) and re-ordered. I received the wrong wallet again so I guess the picture is of an older style

This is a nice wallet and appears to be just what it says it is...However...just be aware that it IS small. If you don't have much to put in it, it will be great for you. I put 3 credit cards, 2 insurance cards, a laminated SS card, a drivers license and 21 bills in the money slot. It won't stay closed and there isn't enough room for the bills in the money slot. They protrude out of the top. Just be aware.

I tried this wallet after having sworn by the Slimmy only because of what I read here, so I feel the need to balance these reviews. This is a great, well-made wallet, but I have it side-by-side with the Slimmy right now and the bulk of this wallet empty is the same as the filled Slimmy with a dozen bills and 5 cards.

I'm a Slimmy minimalist. This one, as sleek and well made as it is, was too bulky for me, which is not to say that it's bulky by most people's standards. And it's definitely well-made.

The dog ate my husband's last wallet. I shopped around for a wallet that was big enough to hold his stuff, yet small enough to fit in his front pocket for those times he didn't want it in his back pocket. I chose this wallet. My husband loves it! It is high quality, holds everything well, has a nice flip up ID section, and it is slim enough to fit comfortably in his front pocket when it is completely full. No other wallet has been able to accomplish that. Now to keep this one away from the dog!

I bought this on a whim because I thought buying a wallet on the internet seemed like an out-of-the-box thing to do. I'm glad I did, though. This wallet is thin and well made, with plenty of pockets for business cards, credit cards, metro cards, or that Joker card you have to carry around with you wherever you go because you got involved in a game in college where if someone says "Show me your Joker" and you don't have a Joker card you have to drop trou no matter where you are.

I was concerned that the ID window flip part would be annoying, but it's actually pretty sweet. The cash pocket is a little shallow, so sometimes your benjamins peek out the top, but that's my only complaint. Even fully loaded it's very thin, and comfortable in my back pocket.

Looking for a cheap, but decent buy? This wallet is a pretty good candidate.

pros

- pretty slim
- 2 slots for cards on each side (one slot fits 2, maybe more)
- 1 pocket for cards behind slots on each side

cons

- flip up ID holder (which has 2 slots before flipping to show ID) thickens the wallet a tiny bit (i eventually cut it off)
- money shows at the top when open (tiny sliver) and shows if looking at the wallet from above (USD notes)

conclusion

this wallet is not a bad buy if you plan on traveling lightweight and like to keep something slim in your back or front pockets

I am not sure what people are talking about. I got 16 bills + 6 cards in this wallet and everything fits fine. Also the cards are easy to get out and at the same time they can't be shaken out either. One more note: At first the wallet didn't close all the way but after a few week it now does. I think it just needed to be stretched out a little.

As for the test of time I won't know for awhile.

This is the second Geoffrey Beene wallet which I have purchased for my husband. The first one was more than five years old and was beginning to look `tired', especially after an unfortunate incident in the washer. I purchased the same model for my husband and he is immensely pleased with it. This wallet is small, but not so small that it is not able to fit dollar bills and credit cards. The clear plastic liner fits an ID card, and there are compartments for a couple of credit cards as well as dollar bills.
I'd recommend these wallets to anyone looking for an affordable, soft and supple men's wallet.
