February 2003
If you have ever wondered how the rocks and scenery of California's majestic Sierra Nevada mountain range were formed, take this geologic guide with you on your next trip. Written for the non-geologist, this detailed guide describes 116 of the best known scenic and geologic attractions in the Sierra. Vivid descriptions are enhanced by detailed directions, location maps, and abundant illustrations. Konigsmark covers the vast area ranging from Mount Whitney and Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park in the south to Nevada City and Sierra Buttes in the north.

This clear and up-to-date guide will help readers understand the geologic processes that have made the Sierra one of the most beautiful and enjoyed places on earth. The author's lifelong love and study of the Sierra is evident throughout this fascinating and cogent guide. About the Author

Ted Konigsmark is a native Californian and a geologist. He is now retired and living with his wife, Marilyn, in northern California on the eastern edge of the Pacific Plate. During his school years in Los Angeles, Ted spent as much time as possible hiking, climbing, caving, prospecting and working in the Sierra Nevada. After graduating from UCLA and receiving a Ph.D. degree in geology from Princeton, he spent most of his career in the oil industry, where his primary interest was in geologic evaluation of frontier exploration areas worldwide. He held various supervisory and management positions, including manager of geologic research and chief geologist for Exxon's international oil exploration activities. Since retiring, Ted has taken many different groups on geologic walks and field trips in northern California. He has written three geologic field guides for the non-geologist. Other books by the author include Geologic Trips: San Francisco & the Bay Area and Geologic Trips: Sea Ranch.
