A valuable new book on Africa,
By
This review is from: Geological Atlas of Africa: With Notes on Stratigraphy, Tectonics, Economic Geology, Geohazards and Geosites of Each Country (Hardcover)
This a very good collection of maps and descriptions for each African country. The regional geology is generally well described and obviously represents the best consesus and data available. The economic geology is occasionly a bit generic and doesn't cover recent exploration activities in Africa. The hazard and sites descriptions are a bit so so due to lack of data in many cases. The continental review is also usefull (14 pages).

This review is from: Geological Atlas of Africa: With Notes on Stratigraphy, Tectonics, Economic Geology, Geohazards, Geosites and Geoscientific Education of Each Country (Hardcover)
A quick review of the "Geological Atlas of Africa" with "notes" on stratigraphy etc etc is so over simplified as to be essentially useless to any serious reader or researhcer. Stratigraphic terminologies and interpretations of stratigraphy are 40 or more years out of date. The section on Ghana in particular is quite telling in its interpretation of Proterozoic stratigraphic elements. If you are seeking real geologic information on Africa, then put in the time to do the research and save the $200 plus price of this book.
