Product Description

A fascinating introduction to one of the most active seismic regions in North America where new earth crust is created as the Baja peninsula (and Borrego) splits from the mainland. Eight field trips journey through deep time in the desert, illustrating major themes of earth science. Numerous maps, photos, and diagrams lend understanding to the exciting story. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the Non Geology Professional, May 13, 2001

This was my first "geology" book, and found Paul's book to be well written, interesting, humorous at times, and has singularly sparked my own interest in paleontology, geology and the Anza Borrego Desert Region. In the two years since I read this, I've devoured many other books of similar vein, looking for the pleasure that this book brought. A great read and field guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desert geology and space to roam in a vast SoCal State Park, January 23, 2008
Along side all of the Roadside Geology guides, I pulled this one off the shelf as a reminder of where I need to take the familia after the rains are over. BC (before children) my wife and I camped and explored this place, the second largest State park in the nation. She more than tolerated my excursions to see the the exposures at Fish Creek, Split Mountain, Painted Gorge, and elsewhere. For the geology it's memorable, but the sheer space that opens up in this desert park is unforgettable. The south side of the park has a great place to hot tub after a long day.

This is a popular location to take local geology students for obvious reasons. Remeika's guide is indispensable for students and amateur geology buffs alike, but I intend to compare this title with his 2000 guidebook Paleontology and Geology of the Western Salton Sea.

As you can imagine, you can also go online and learn about Anza's natural history as well.
