This review is from: Geology and Paleontology of Eighteen Mile Creek and the Lake Shore Sections of Erie County, New York (Paperback)
This book has excellent descriptions and images of all the fossil fauna you are likely to encounter at Eighteen Mile Creek, the Shore of Lake Erie, and the Penn-Dixie quarry. The book deals primarily with the following formations: Wanakah Shale Member, Ludlowville Formation, Hamilton Group; Tichenor Limestone Member, Moscow Formation, Hamilton Group; Windom Shale Member, Moscow Formation, Hamilton Group. For the purposes of this 100+ year old book....the equivalents, as they were called 100 years ago: Windom Shale = Moscow Shale....Tichenor Limestone = Encrinal Limestone...Hamilton Shale = Wanakah Shale.
In addition to being excellent visually, it is also an easy read. Grabau writes in a more modern prose, not in the vernacular of the late 19th century. If you are collecting in these formations, having this book is a necessity. You will not be disappointed. Especially for the price. |
