5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME toy for ALL ages!!!!
My nine year brother originally bought a box of these for his friend's birthday. I was looking at the box of the geomags when we were eating lunch, and I thought they looked so cool we went back to the store and bought a box for ourselves! It was one of the best purchases we ever made! They are so fun for all ages and they are a perfect family activity! Later, we even...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but needs to be expanded
The idea behind this toy is great but they need to double the number of pieces in the box. I started to run out of ideas after about 2 hours of playing with it with my sons. We'll likely buy another and combine them.

It was one of the best purchases we ever made! They are so fun for all ages and they are a perfect family activity! Later, we even went back and got another box! My friends all love them too and they have bought them! I have played with these for hours! The possibilities are endless. You can build structures, make jewelry, and play games! I definetly recommend these!

5.0 out of 5 stars Toy Store-Ology, November 18, 2002
This review is from: Geomag 42 (Toy)
I work in a toy store and we sell Geomags. Let me tell you, they are almost impossible to keep in stock. They are very very very strong, and are quite addictive. You can build immense towers, perpetual motion machines (almost), tops, and lots of things that spin. By connecting two spheres you can spin any shape! One sphere can suppost at least nineteen other pieces. This is a great toy, they are heavy duty, and built tough. If you're into a building type toy, or like to explore physics, or need a really neat desk toy, this is it.

I purchased the 42 piece set for my 5yr old sister; she loves it, and is clamoring for more sets.
DON'T BUY ANYTHING SMALLER THAN THE 42 PIECE SET! Once you (or your young friend) start playing with it, they'll demand more pieces!
This is an excellent learning toy, with applications in everything from physics to geometry. I highly recommend it for kids (and I'm a 22yr old one) of all ages.

This is an amazing toy with real staying power. My five year old son has played with this every single day since receiving the set as a birthday present a couple weeks ago. His two year old sister loves to play as well. The 42 piece set WILL seem like too little after a couple hours of play, so buying another (and another) will probably be a good idea. The ONE majorly annoying thing about this toy is that the parts are VERY small, and when you have little kids in the house you end up having to track them down all over the house. Right now the set is missing 4 bars and 7 balls, and I have NOOOO idea where they are. Setting up a rule where the game is played with in ONE room, and put away before moving on will save everyone headaches. Obviously, this toy is really not appropriate for homes with little ones as the metal balls are just about perfect for putting in the mouth and swallowing, and are hard to keep track of. My 2.5 year old understands that they do not belong in the mouth, but even so this toy needs constant supervision if you have a mix of ages in the house.

I bought this set at FAO for my 2 1/2 year old.....little did I realize how much he would love it! I have since bought 5 more sets that allow him to build all kinds of things including towers, space stations, airplanes etc. with parental supervision. The magnets are very strong unlike some other sets that I bought in the past. He spends hours with these things and yes they are [pricey] but well worth it!

This toy surprised us for its lasting durability and the sustained interest of my grandson, age 6 1/2. Ignoring a room full of toys and games, he played with the pieces almost daily and carried them back and forth to school, making interesting shapes and stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Attraction at it's best, March 26, 2003

The Geomag 42 piece set is a lot of fun. My son received it for his birthday, and it's a hit. All of my children enjoy it and use it to create shapes, canes, and objects. The magnets are quite strong considering their actual size, and their size is much smaller than I'd anticipated from the picture on the box. Each rod is about one inch (2.5 cm)long and maybe 1/4" wide. That is the only draw back in my opinion because my children are still in the lower end of the age bracket, and so I have to watch that none of the pieces disappear. But I would still recommend this product, especially for an older child who is responsible. It's great to play with it with your children, but due to the size of the pieces, if you have younger ones, you'll just have to watch carefully so that none of the pieces get lost.

We have a 7 year old (going on 50) nephew who is not impressed with anything. We bought him this for present when we went to visit him, and it kept him busy for 4 hours. He asked for another set for Christmas, so we are ordering it. He like Legos a lot, but gets bored with the kits. It was really great to find something he liked.

I bought a small 9pc set for my 8 year old son for x-mas. Two months later, we ordered the 42pc. By the end of the day both our children were drooling over the 1450pc set. I told them to go get a job to help pay for it.
Yes, the downside is the number of pieces listed is the total number of spheres and magnet sticks. Consequently, as with K-Nex, you feel the need to buy the big "tub-o-parts". I would recommend starting, as a minimum, with the 42pc and fully anticipate buying the 86pc within a few months . . .or days.
