5.0 out of 5 stars Hours of educational fun for kids and adults!, December 25, 2009

I was one of many children in a family that had a lot of building, creating, experimenting toys. I've raised four children with similar inquiring minds, and have seven grandchildren. My criteria for toys is that they are fun, excite a child's imagination and creativity, are quality made and have lasting value. Ideally it should interest parents enough so they want to play, too, sometimes, but also of a nature that the kids can play alone. This item meets all of the standards.
I gave this set to my 6 and 2 year old granddaughters a while ago and they were an instant hit above all others toys, books and games they received. This set was small so each girl got 12 rods and 10 balls, but it has kept them busy for long periods of time off and on throughout the days since and is often the first thing they go to in the mornings. The two year old focuses on flat shapes she can make on the floor and then pick up - intact - to show around, without falling apart. She's starting to make 3D forms, which the 6 year old was immediately constructing. Their parents say they are still the girl's favorite, most 'come-back-to' toy.
These are very well made and because you can add to the set with different colors and pieces, I plan to expand my granddaughter's set as gift-giving occasions arise. The magnet rods are strong enough that at least 12 can be held as a 'string' and carefully swung.
The pieces are small so you need to supervise little ones who still put things in their mouths. My 2 yo didn't, but I think she's too young to be left alone with them, just in case, so wish I had more for myself to play with.
I highly recommend this brand #I've bought many others# for children of all ages and even the 44 pice set for adults.

GeoMags are fabulous. My four year old and three year old love to play with them...as does my husband. They allow for much creativity and are a fun building toy. I think they are a must have in your building toys collection.

Our son will be 4 in March and he enjoys playing with this set. The 44 piece set has just enough parts to keep it interesting, but we are still able to keep track of things before it all vanishes under the couch. I think he'll have even more fun designing shapes with it as he gets older, but right now it is about putting anything together and seeing how it comes apart (and sometimes goes flying). He also enjoys mysteriously "moving" the balls (a.k.a. "marbles") with the force. Best played with some limited adult guidance at this age--especially true at our house for safety reasons, given the younger brother. It's a toy they can grow into.

There are many magnetic tys on the market. This is my favorite. It is sticks and balls. You can make all sorts of geometric objects. Both 2 and 3 dimensional. I bought 3 sets so I could make buckminsterfullerine (soccer ball) with my kids. Be careful, the steel balls will roll away if you let them

I love toys that are simple and you can play with creatively. I bought it for my daughter and my husband opened it and played with it for an hour before she got home from school. The magnets are good and strong. I wish it had more pieces, but for the price I can just buy another set. Highly recommend this toy.
