Better than you would expect!,

If someone told me I would be sitting for like 3 hours straight, not noticing the time pass, shooting little flying geometric shapes into oblivion, I should have been likely to scoff that them sir, but no, I would have been wrong!
From the aspiring to the seasoned shootist to any variety of space explosion enthusiasts this is a title for the ages. Blow up a wide variety of ships and creatures each with different behavioral patterns, collect "geoms" from the wreckage to up grade your blasters, gain lives and bombs, and multiply you score in combat, and use these game "geoms" out of battle to unlock new systems and planets. Your ship also comes supplied with an orbital sidekick that can be set to any number of behaviors such as attack, or ram, or sniper, and as you use the behaviors they levels up and becomes more effective. And trust me, you'll need them! Over 60 levels that somehow manage to keep challenging you all the while not getting stale. Each new "planet" is a new experience. And if thats not enough Reto evolved the game that started it all is packaged in the bundle as well! And don't forget the online leader board! Are you the best of the best? The only flaw is that the game can suffer from some slow down when the combat gets hectic, but this often is a god send giving you time to think in situations that otherwise would be pure frantic reaction. Pick it up. Well worth the price for any shooter fan. DISCLAIMER: Any math you happen to lean by playing is purely incidental.

If you are left handed, this is not a good choice,

Really for right-handed folks only. This game has a fairly unique control method on the DS so that if you are left-handed you will have a difficult time with it. Just a fair warning before you buy. There is a left-handed mode to choose, but I found it virtually impossible to play the game.

This is a great addition to my growing DS library and fills a unique niche. I enjoy the fact that each planet's fight can range from a few seconds to minutes. When I only have time to play a little DS, this game is perfect. However, it also has great depth and can hold my attention for long stretches. It is a game that has great staying-power but can also be satisfying small doses. I'm sure I will be entertained for a long time - great buy!

I Missed the 90s,

I haven't played a good shooter since the 90s. Side scrolling and vertical scrolling shooters went the way of the dodo because... well, I don't know, because I really like those kind of games back then (and even now). It's just a mindless test of dexterity and reflexes for me. It's also fun to see things blow up.
While this isn't exactly a side or vertical scrolling shooter, it's still fun to dodge enemies and bullets (actually, just geometric shapes). The controls are very intuitive (I use the D-pad to move and the touch screen to shoot). In fact, I like this setup much more than using 2 sticks. I only have two complaints. Since the DS Lite is a bit small, it really hurts my hand, but that's more of a problem with the DS than the game. What makes it worse is that the bomb is mapped to the shoulder button, which contorts my hands even more. It'd be nice if you can bomb with a double tap on the touch screen.

Good old-fashioned shoot-em up fun,

Don't let the dated graphics fool you. It may not be much to look at, but it's got a lot of substance underneath that simple exterior. It plays a lot like Asteroids as you maneuver your ship around the screen, blowing up just about everything you see. The control scheme is more like Robotron as you move around with the direction pad but use the stylus to control the direction you shoot in (so you can move one direction and shoot another). There are 40-50+ levels, some of which are more fun than others. Some levels you might only be able to last 5-10 minutes, but other levels you can play for an hour or more. You also collect power-ups to increase your weapon strength, and choose from a variety of support weapons. There is a special world which can only be unlocked if you have both the Wii and DS versions of the game but I'm not about to spend for the same game twice. If you're into bragging rights, you can post your high scores online. As a bonus it includes the Xbox Live version of the game, Geometry Wars Retro Evolved, which is fun but seems dated compared to the newer version.
If you're trying to decide which version of the game to buy, I understand the DS version has a better control scheme (I haven't tried the Wii version myself, but I've heard it works best with the classic controller but still isn't as intuitive as the DS control scheme). The one drawback to this game is that there is some slowdown on certain levels when massive amounts of enemies are swarming all over the screen. But don't let that stop you from getting this game. It's a must-buy for anyone who enjoys a shooter.

I played the original Geometry Wars at my friend's for the 360 when it first came out and I thought it was a very original game. Galaxies takes it to the next level by including an drone with many power ups, new enemies, online play, and of course the original retro evolved in a single package. This is a game that is easy to learn and difficult to master, and will keep you entertained for hours.

Very Fun! Just Hard On Your Touch Screen,

This was a very fun, entertaining game. It had simple controls, and a lot of cool maps. I had a neat little "drone" that help you with you mission and you could select what it was going to to/be (snipe, turret, collect the geoms etc.) and you could level it up by winning (or losing, as long as you get a certain amount of points) one problem I have with this game is that the main way to shoot is with the touch screen (you can shoot with the buttons but it's not very accurate) and it scratches it up.

My husband and I played a version of this on the Xbox 360 arcade. We loved it and were bummed when we had to leave his brother's house. (where the Xbox was) So anyways, we are at a game store, looking around for a new game for my DS and guess what we found? This game! From the instant we saw it, we knew we had to have it! We were both excited trying this game and we often had little disputes over who's turn it was! You can use the stylis or use the buttons. I use the buttons, which I like, each fires in a direction. You get the same effect using the stylis, which is my husband's preferance. He actually had the game FREEZE on him because he got such a high score! The levels are tricky but the concept remains the same, shoot little shapes and grab the shape. You get bonuses if you get 150 gems without dying, which is really cool. There are chances to get extra lives by shooting something. This game didn't cost us too much, and it was worth every penny! If you played on the Xbox 360 Arcade, then you should try this one! Its a great game!

The massive XBox Live hit that is Geometry Wars makes its way to the DS with Geometry Wars: Galaxies. Taking the formula of the original game and upping the ante and adding some depth, Geometry Wars: Galaxies offers unlockable planets and some nice multiplayer modes as well, while still offering the same brand of addicting gameplay that made the game so great in the first place. You can either control your ship using the face buttons of the DS to manuver and shoot, or you can use the stylus and touch screen to fire. Using the touch screen provides a great deal of accuracy as you're caught up in all the chaos, but you still need to use the D-pad to manuver, which can be kind of hard on the hands. Actually, with all the frantic moments that come in Geometry Wars, you're fingers might get pretty sore. That aside, there is plenty of addicting fun to be had here, and there is plenty to do as well. In addition to unlocking a side variety of planets, the original never-ending game itself, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, is also included here as well, as are some fine multiplayer options. If there are any downsides to Geometry Wars: Galaxies, it's that the game suffers from a bit of slowdown when the action gets frantic, and that there is no online multiplayer either. Small gripes aside though, Geometry Wars: Galaxies is one of the most addicting and fun excursions you'll ever play on your DS, and it is definitely worth picking up for newcomers and veterans of Geometry Wars.

At first I thought I had wasted 30 bucks, but then I changed the controls to allow the stylus to move the ship and the d pad to fire. It took getting used to, but the game became addicting. It even includes a full version of evolved. Very highly recommend.
