English band The Wedding Present played an important and undervalued role in the development of British indie-rock. While other English bands of the time, such as The Smiths and The Fall, regularly get more credit, the Wedding Present sound closer to most indie-rock bands of today than either of those bands.

Essentially a vehicle for singer-songwriter David Gedge, the Wedding Present's line-up of… Read more in Amazon's The Wedding Present Store

5.0 out of 5 stars There have been few better songs of unrequited love written., July 28, 1998

A true classic of an album containing "My Favourite Dress" one of the most painful outbursts of heart-broken angst. No record collection should be without this - the finest album to come out of mid-80s Britain.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Record, Bad Remaster, October 10, 2007

I love this record. And I am also a big fan of remastered re-releases (Bowie, Roxie, etc.), but I was disappointed in the sound of this remaster. My Import version sounds MUCH better...a lot more raw, more vital, better definition between instruments. This sounds like a lot of compression, and not much more. Buy this record, but don't re-buy it for a better experience like I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Jangle Pop, November 26, 2004
This review is from: George Best plus (Audio CD)
The album that got me hooked on the WP about 15 years ago.
Great jangly power pop with caustic lyrics primarily about being betrayed in love.
Not as much fuzz and distortion as soon of the later albums like Seamonsters and Bizzaro (which are equally brilliant, but in slightly different ways).
Some really classic songs that I never get tired of after years of listening.
I have the album on vinyl but after years of playing (and not enough TLC), it's too scratched. I think I'll buy the CD simply to have this album last a lifetime and to get the extra tracks.
If you even remotely like the WP, thisis a great album to own and love for years.
