The definitive Gershwin collection,

Thanks to my brother for pointing me towards this one. According to him it has "a waaaarrrrgh-tastic rendition of the full orchestral version of Rhapsody in Blue (the sort of thing that blasts through your head when you walk half-way across the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan and then, ever so slowly, turn around)."I have to agree. It also has some of the best, most heart&gut-wrenching versions of other Gershwin standards ("A Foggy Day", bits of Porgy & Bess, etc.) Buy it - you'll love it.

Cables Brings Tears to your Soul,

I first heard a cut of George Cables on Seattle's KING FM classic station, part of his solo concert for the Seattle Art Museum. Even though it was on the car radio, I could tell there was a yearning magic in his playing. I borrowed this CD from a friend. All I can say is "Wow."
