5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! He is more normal than most of us!
'Lifelong fan' obviously does not get Carlin's straightforward 'in your face' humor. Perhaps he should look to tamer comedians for his dose of funny. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not George's best
Judging by the for/against ratings given to the "negative" reviews it's clear that one MUST NOT AT ALL COST diss George "the god" Carlin. (It's the equivalent to criticizing Apple!) Clearly his fans are as bitter and distrustful as he is in this show. I love George - I agree with him more than I don't. But this outing is full of venom and is sometimes painful to watch...

'Lifelong fan' obviously does not get Carlin's straightforward 'in your face' humor. Perhaps he should look to tamer comedians for his dose of funny. Sure, the airport security part is a bit dated and insensitive due to 9/11, but keep in mind this was recorded live BEFORE that heinous day. Otherwise, this DVD is downright hilarious! It is classic Carlin, with acerbic jabs at religion, our fear of germs, cigar smokers, businessmen, macho men, and other choice subject areas. His observation on religion alone makes this DVD worth owning. As I tend to agree with George, hearing him expound on his feelings vis a vis this subject area had me laughing hard and nodding my head in agreement. This is probably one of the better Carlin DVD's out now, and a MUST OWN if you are a fan of George.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fearless, edgy, political, and yes smutty, April 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: George Carlin - You Are All Diseased (DVD)
The first 15 minutes of this concert, had my jaw on the floor. I couldn't believe what I was watching. Here, Carlin makes it funny to talk about airport security, terrorism, SARS and how afraid we've become as Americans. WOW. And this contemporary concert was held in 1999! His topics are so relevant to today, that it's both disarmingly funny and frightenly prescient.

However, no one today would have the fearlessness to *actually* produce something like this post 9//11. It's amazing to me that this is even on DVD.

I recommend this concert if you are tired of the namby pamby programming we've been fed by the corporate entities, post 9//11. Not only is this funny, but it is politically cutting-- much more so than Dennis Miller's meandering vocabulary. (Dennis Miller is bound to buy this DVD and owes this master a bow or two.) If you like the fearlessness of "South Park", you should also enjoy "You Are All Diseased".

There are some moments in the last 15 minutes where, like every comedian, even Jon Stewart's concerts, Carlin veers into "skanky" sexual jokes that are hit and miss. Overall, however, this is a refreshing anomaly in our oppressively "politically correct" times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Funny, February 28, 2005
This review is from: George Carlin - You Are All Diseased (DVD)
After viewing George Carlins "Complaints & Grievances" DVD. I bought the "You Are All Diseased" CD. I found it hilarious so I rented the DVD which is funnier. While I prefer C&G I think this is funny as hell. He makes a lot of good points. He's great with both physical and spoken comedy. He makes jokes about everyday things. Wanna laugh? Rent this. Simply the same ol George I have always known... edgy, spot on topic & controversial. LOVED the observatons on religion especially NOW! Anyone who does not laugh at this should get your funny bone re-adjusted. (or take the stick out of your rear)

5.0 out of 5 stars "Disease Runs Rampant", November 5, 2003

I grew up with Carlin; I can remember having my father run across the living room to turn off the 7 words you'd not see/hear on tv!
I own several of his cds and have seen many of his HBO specials, all of which are phenominal! Show me something that he has done, aside from the drug phase, that he sucked at! Agghum, there isn't much of anything that comes to mind, right?
As a testiment to how enduring and everlasting this cd is, I can tell you that has been circulated through several members of my large family; each has come back in tears, from laughing so hard, and wanting more.
I am telling you, get this and "Complaints and Grievances" as well - "I don't have to tell you I am not home..." Get it and you'll see! This is TOP knotch comic lunacy and is right up there with my other fave comedians like Eddie Izzard, and John Leguizamo.

In my opinion this is some of the best of George Carlin. The meaner he gets the more I like him, and in this show he's on the attack. He makes some jokes about political humor, but Carlin is no politician and he has no agenda, its just pure standup and a look at things through the eyes of George.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not George's best, December 9, 2010
This review is from: George Carlin - You Are All Diseased (DVD)
Judging by the for/against ratings given to the "negative" reviews it's clear that one MUST NOT AT ALL COST diss George "the god" Carlin. (It's the equivalent to criticizing Apple!) Clearly his fans are as bitter and distrustful as he is in this show. I love George - I agree with him more than I don't. But this outing is full of venom and is sometimes painful to watch. It's not because he's wrong - he's mostly right. But he used to make his point without being so over-the-top. He just sounds like a bitter old man who didn't get what he wanted out of life. He's got a major chip on his shoulder and vomits the result all over the audience. He was more effective when his sledgehammer was covered with a velvet sock. Once in a while he throws in the odd, subtle, sarcastic bit of old but then falls right back into this major rant that reasonable people would tend to want to dismiss. One of George's problems is that his target audience is college students. And we all know how useless they've become at effecting change. Heck, he even insults them point blank and they continue hooting and hollering, blissfully oblivious to George's message. This is much more apparent in his "Back in Town" concert. As much as I like him I doubt he converted anyone who was not already on his side.

5.0 out of 5 stars "what do you think you have an immune system for? It's for killing germs...but it needs practice...., September 11, 2008
This review is from: George Carlin - You Are All Diseased (DVD)
.....it needs germs to practice on!!!"

This is the performance where he is angry. George warns you in the opening lines. For some, it might get a little "dark."

I've listened to and seen almost all of Carlin. This is his wittiest and most provactive material - with out being overly "blue". I think he was at his peak when this was made about 10 years ago - quick, wise and as wickedly funny as ever. Caustically discusses current events, language, religion, business people/practices, advertising, race, fear of germs/terrorism, over-protecting children, Clinton and Kennedy....

4.0 out of 5 stars In Memory of George, July 31, 2008
This review is from: George Carlin - You Are All Diseased (DVD)
I have loved George since the 50's when he did the Ozark Airline commercials and billboards. Yes, I'm old.

I saw him in concert the day my dad died (talk about going from a high to a low!), and so admired him when he announced he was taking a break and proceeded to sit on his stool on stage, drinking water and doing nothing. The audience loved it!

I've always considered this man a genius in his ability to see things as they really are and not be afraid to express his opinions.

This dvd is no exception. He is hysterically funny.... until the very end. Then you can sense his anger. I heard that he'd never been the same since the death of his wife, however I've never checked Snopes. That might explain this.

It didn't turn me off, but rather I wondered how the rest of his audience reacted to some of the things he was saying. And honestly it made it hard for me to figure out which side of the fence he was on.

But all in all I'm so glad I bought this dvd. Like I said, I always admired and respected the man. And I love anyone who can make me laugh.

If you feel the same, by all means get this dvd. I would recommend it to anyone who likes this type of honest, raw, and cynical humor, with a warning that the end is a little different.

God Bless George!
May he rest in peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars George Carlin You're All Diseased HBO Special Review, January 3, 2007
This review is from: George Carlin - You Are All Diseased (DVD)
As a huge George Carlin fan, this is one of my favorites! If you live under a rock and don't know George Carlin, be prepared for some naughty words! This special was taped in NYC in 1999 and Mr. Carlin is at his "pre-detox" peak! He totally rips on airport security, businessmen, customer "service" (sorry, Amazon!) and few sacred cows of society. While I'm not big on stand up comedy DVD's, this is good one to toss in at the end of a bad day. Very funny!
