Good for begining Funkateers, but not the best compilation,
By A Customer
This review is from: George Clinton - Greatest Funkin' Hits (Audio CD)
George Clinton is literally the epidemy of all that is funk. It don't get no better than George and Co. This is the CD that started me on my way to the land of Funkadelica. That is what it is good for, being a starter CD. I kindof like the idea of redoing some classics (i.e. Flashlight..etc) but they aren't the best redos. I am not very fond of his use of big name rappers on some of the mixes. Flashlight is ok with Q-tip and Busta Rhymes, but ODB totally ruins it for me. He wouldn't know funk if it slapped him in the face. I don't think that even a shot from the Bop Gun would save this guy from the Anti-Funkland. Some of the songs are fun to just listen to in the background while doing something, there is definatly not a shortage of deep thumpin' beats here. I'm also not real sure what is up with this compilation's "Bop Gun". It isn't a remake of the origanol Bop Gun, it is a remake of "One Nation Under a Groove" with Ice Cube rapping, but non-the-less it is still a pretty good song. If you would a little squirt of George Clinton's music, give Greatest Funkin' Hits a shot. It is good if you don't want to go out and buy over $300 worth of Parliament/Funkadelic CD's to get the full effect of his music. (that is what I did a couple weeks after buying this album. I spent 3/4 of my paycheck buying every Parliament, Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, P-Funk album that I could get my hands on) To you true Funkateers out there, you probably don't need this album, but if you want a twist on some of his music, get it.

Greatest Funkin Hit's NOT!,

This was not the a CD with the original hits I was looking for. I wanted to hear Parliament, not Ice Cube, ODB, Digital Underground, etc. This was a CD full of remixes. If you want to hear old school with artists from the new school chimming in --buy it. If not, you'll either have to buy the deluxe box set for over a hundred, or buy a whole cd for one song. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a CD with all 4 of my favorites on it: Knee Deep, One Nation, Atomic Dog, Flashlight.

This CD features a collection of George Clinton classics covered by rappers like Coolio, Busta Rhymes, and Digital Underground. Some funk purists may hate it, but you can't deny that the rap guys bring a raw energy to tracks like "Flashlight" that makes these remade grooves eminently listenable. Check out "Booty Body Ready for the Plush Funk"; listen to that bass line--it's pure Bootsy. Or "Bop Gun" -- listen how Ice Cube has internalized Clinton's inner dialogue from albums like "Funkentelechy" and "Gloryhallastoopid", remixed it and shipped it back to us first class. Everything is there (except maybe "Sir Nose d'Avoidoffunk" and we'll catch him next time). Of course the rappers bring their own style with them, but their love and admiration for Clinton shines through always. This is more than sampling; this is a hommage to the man who made funk what it is.
