Nicely compliments Mothership Connection DVD!,
This review is from: George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic - Live at Montreux 2004 (DVD)
Stop! If you don't have the Mothership Connection DVD, I highly recommend buying it first. Perhaps I'm too old school but, in my opinion, the Mothership Connection DVD captures PFunk at their peak and the Live At Montreux DVD captures PFunk as they are now. That said, if you already have the Mothership Connection DVD, the Live At Montreux DVD compliments it nicely and both are must haves for your PFunk collection. Live At Montreux has outstanding performances and it captures everything that you expect to see/hear when you go to a PFunk concert nowadays. However, my favorite part of the Live At Montreux DVD are the bonus tracks. It is worth buying the Live At Montreux DVD if only for Bernie Worrell's synth solo and Michael Hampton's performance of Maggot Brain. Regardless, I must emphasize buying the Mothership Connection DVD first if you don't already have it. I just feel it is a superior concert.

This is the best George Clinton DVD concert to date. I also own the Mothership connection DVD and the Live at the House of Blues DVD, and this one tops them both. There was probably a little less emphasis on the guitarists than I'm used to, but the vocalists, arrangements, new musicians, intensity and the return of Bernie Worrel more than made up for that. As usual, the seamless flow of one mode into another was matchless. Without much fanfare, the entire personnel on stage could change in a moment. Even the MC got to get himself "some" on the P-Funk rendition of "A Whole Lotta Shakin'" which literally rocked. The female vocalist were fine and appropriately nasty, as were their predecessors, Lynn Mabry and Dawn Silva. The electric violin version of "Maggot Brain" will be talked about for years to come. The show is constantly changing as it remains the same as in "Look out here I come, right back where I started from."

This may not appeal 100% to "old school P-Funk fans". Maybe the "raw" part is missing. But it is a very appealing concert, as most Montreux are. Great sound, P-Funk spirit is alive. Great performances, a great mixture of funk, rock, jazz, hip-hop, soul, you name it.
George Clinton's presence gives a special experience and energy to the show. I miss Bootsy Collins on this one but you won't be dissapointed. The repertoire is very good and there's a good variety of people and styles. A superb violinist (Lili Haydn) gives a brilliant solo, as well as Bernie Worrell's keyboard solo. A memorable version of Maggot Brain with violinist Lili Haydn and Michael Hampton on guitar is also available. Over 2 hours with Funkadelic/Parliament stuff, with a good picture and great 5.1 sound. Highly recommendable. Now I will try to get the older concert from Mr. Clinton.

This DVD is cool cause it is the only one since 70's DVD concert....(good quality audio and video)
However this concert is not representative of a real P Funk sound and atmosphere you can feel in gorgeous concerts (for exemple....2005 shows !!) Most of songs are too soft : big lack of loudness and absence of Funkadelic singers ---->"Cosmic slop" is not on this DVD ggrrrrrr..... Content of the DVD is really poor and bonus are illusion ....THey put intro of Bennie worrel and maggot brain as bonus....it's a part of the whole show !!!! lol Don't fake THE FUNK please .... just pray for a new DVD with a good production this time and the complete 2005 P Funk band on it !!! Thank you and get off your ass for the next video !

This DVD is what the Live From The House of Blues DVD should have been. Nuff Said
Only thing missing here is bonus backstage or on the road footage.

Wow!! George Clinton damn near 70 years old still giving up the funk...LOL!
For any funkateer I would advise you to pick up this DVD not because it's All of that..(which it's NOT!) but because this IS the founder of the P-funk still in action with some of his old commrades by his side like Bernie Worrell, Robert "P-Nut" Johnson, Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton, Frankie "Kash" Waddy.& Cordell Mosson and a few others. NO, These cats aren't as crisp and electrofying with the funk as was in the 70's and early 80's but remember alot of the heavyweight funk masters of the past are not playing with George Clinton (at least not on this DVD) like Boosty Collins, Gary Shider, Gary "Mudbone" Cooper, Junie Morrison, Maceo Parker & Fred Wesley just to name a few. Also most of the original cats on this DVD are well in there mid 50's and time as has definitely played it's part as well as drugs...LOL! But give credit where credit is due. George Clinton and his group which consists of alot of young non-original members are still funky but I will admit it does get a tad boring towards the end. Come on...Any true fans of P-funk knows that when George and the crew takes the stage they'll put on a good 3 hour show the only problem now is that everything is in slow motion and the funk that was so electrofying in the past will now lull you off to sleep..LOL. For instance, (Not just) Knee Deep which is a classic song by Funkadelic. the original BPM to that song is around 118-120. when watching this DVD these cats are playing it around 96-100 BPM. I'm like screaming at my TV set " YO! PICK UP THE TEMPO!!!"...LOL! But on the other hand..when they played The Undisco Kidd (The Girl is Bad) featuring Belita Woods. Whew!!...That's classic vintage P-funk stuff and happens to be my favorite song on the DVD. The way I see it, These guys are kinda like The Rolling Stones. They're old but still funky but unlike the The Rolling Stones it's clear that George Clinton and the crew is jammimg strictly for financial purposes. NOTE: LEAVE THOSE DRUGS ALONE...LOL! But I do enjoy there prescence on stage. With Parliament/Funkadelic life is one big party and that is what I have always admired about George Clinton; the hell about trying to look glamorous and cute It's about getting sweaty and funky. In other words: Sh&t, G&%damn, Get off your Azz and Jam!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic - Live at Montreux 2004 (DVD)
This DVD shows true musical skills and creativity. George Clinton shows that he has conquered the test of time. He integrated new members, one with a violin, his grandaughter, old members into his famous hits and blew my mind! His change of tempo on his classics, such as Knee Deep was that of a master. It captured me and educated me on how the art of true music is lost with today's hip-hop, sampling, no true musical talented generation. I'm 50 years young and I'm grateful to obtain a wonderful DVD of one of the greatest of all time. Only he and Prince are still doing it.

I have given this dvd to at least a dozen friends and neighbors at Christmas. I have watched it at least 100 times. If your'e chilling with your favorite drink or whatever this concert takes you away from it all. I was stoked to see the bonus songs section was like another show. It is the 1st 5 songs before what is the main show and 1 song played at the end. The only thing that I didn't like is that Cosmic Slop wasn't played. That is my favorite song ever. Some others were not played either. I saw them first in Myrtle Beach then in Shreveport. I cant wait to see them again! I own the older concert as well and get funky to both. I strongly recommend this to everyone.

George Clinton is the Godfather of Funk (as James Brown is the Godfather of Soul). This show is the essence of P-Funk...worth buying.
