A good grill, but lacks a couple of important features, March 6, 2009
This review is from: George Foreman GR1212 Jumbo-Size Electric Nonstick Contact Grill (Kitchen)
We bought this grill to replace our old GF grill that was about 10 years old. We use this several times a week, and I really miss the old grill.
This does cook meat really quickly, but it lacks a timer and a temperature option that our old GF grill did have. It will burn meat very quickly and puts out a lot of smoke b/c it cooks too fast. This is the only jumbo size, so I guess it will have to do for now. If a timer and temp option were on here, it would make a big difference.

DO YOU WANT A GRILL OR A SANDWICH MAKER?, August 9, 2009
This review is from: George Foreman GR1212 Jumbo-Size Electric Nonstick Contact Grill (Kitchen)
The removable trays are not the way to go if you want grill marks, fast cooking and searing.
I just returned my George Foreman 360 Grill and replaced it with the 144 sq inch Family Size Grill. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The steaks and vegetables came out perfect. It was fast, with grill marks and cooked in the time according to the chart included in the booklet. The 360 just steamed everything and took twice as long to cook as what the directions claimed.
I believe the removable plates are not making a good enough contact to the heating element and that's why it can't get hot enough to cook the food as advertised. The top plate is loose and wobbly and not snug enough to the heating element. Also, you have two surfaces to heat instead of one (the removable plate, and the top of the unit that has the heating element).
I read all the reviews on the 360 and thought that it was definitely the way to go until I tried it. It might be great for grilled cheese and quesadillas, etc., but for a real grill-type grill, the removable plates ARE NOT THE WAY TO GO! NON-removable plates get the job done.
If you read the reviews, read the ones that have the information according to what you want to cook. If all you want are sandwiches, read those reviews. If you want it for grilling meat and vegetables, read those reviews.
I wish the Family Grill were take apart like the 360, but you can't have everything.
I found the best way to clean it, is to take wet paper towels and place it on the grill as soon as you're done cooking. When it cools enough to handle you can use the little spatula that came with it on the paper towel to loosen any cooked on food, then wipe off as much as you can. Another clean damp paper towel will finish the job.
A few years ago I purchased a different brand with removable grills and had the same problem. I finally gave it away.

Only negative thing to say is that it does not have the removable grilling plates. Other than that it is a great product.
