Amazon.com Review

Another variant of the celebrated George Foreman Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine, this big grill has a divided top with independent electronic timers for each half so the grill can properly cook two different foods at once. This means half can grill, say, steak and the other vegetables, with timing adjusted so both finish simultaneously. The oval grilling surfaces (top and bottom) measure 16 inches wide and 8-1/2 inches deep. The appliance's appeal lies in its simplicity and countertop convenience--not to mention its fat-fighting ability. By grilling from top and bottom simultaneously, the 1,400-watt grill cuts cooking time to minutes. It also sears in grill marks, which not only look appetizing but also contribute caramelized flavor. The bottom grill's deep channels collect fat, and the grill is sloped so fat runs off into a dishwasher-safe plastic tray (two are included) stationed under the unit's front. Each half of the top has its own floating hinge, allowing the tops to rise and remain level, ensuring thick food cooks evenly.

Because the grill is nonstick, cleanup is a snap: a quick scrape with a plastic spatula (two are included) and a wipe with a paper towel or a sponge. Overall, the grill measures 18 inches wide, 6 inches high, and 13-1/4 inches deep, has a cord-wrap underneath, and is clad in hard, gleaming, white plastic for a sleek appearance. The instruction booklet includes recipes. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars great for different types of food able to cook together, November 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: George Foreman GR44TMR Double Knockout Grill (Kitchen)
I've had this grill for a year. I use it anytime it is too cold to grill outside. It's great because you can cook different types and thicknesses of food at the same time or you can use only one side for small dinners. You can set each side with a different temperature and the top automatically adjusts to the thickness of the food. So thick meats on one side, vegies on the other. Turn off one side when done, food stays warm and you can continue cooking on the other side. To clean easily, I place a damp paper towel in the grill when I turn it off so the residue gets soft and I can wipe it when I'm ready. Really a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The George" packs a wallop, May 22, 2003
By
This review is from: George Foreman GR44TMR Double Knockout Grill (Kitchen)
My wife and I are so fond of our George Foreman grill, we've given it a nickname, something no other home appliance, small or big, has ever inspired us to do. Right out of the box, "The George" squashed our skepticism over the hype of all those ubiquitous TV commercials and turned us into grillin' fools. Especially when time is a factor, oven preparation can't hold a candle to The George, whose speed and efficiency has made late-night suppers, once an unpleasant consequence of our odd work schedules, a thing of the past. The savory grilled goodness of steaks, hamburgers and chicken is mere minutes away when The George does the cooking. Hot dogs, ready in just a couple of minutes, are ballpark-tasty and have become a family favorite. Onions, bell peppers and other healthy veggie sides are delicious, too.

Before I took the suggestion of another Amazon reviewer of placing moistened paper towels between the grilling surfaces to soften cooking residue, clean-up was a horrible onus that took way too much time, elbow grease and cussing, because I had foolishly allowed the stuck-on mess to congeal and harden. The paper towel method is ingenious, it works great, and I can't recommend it enough.

It's easy to see why Consumers Digest named the George Foreman grill a "Best Buy" two years running. For versatility, ease of use and reliability, I also give it my highest mark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't live without it!, May 15, 2003

I have had this model for 2 years and we use it almost every day. This is the one small appliance I can't live without. This is the third Foreman grill model I've owned in about 7 years. The first was great, but too small to cook for the whole family at one time. The second was big enough to cook for the whole family, but too big most other times. This model is perfect. Use the whole thing for a crowd or use half for a burger or two. The temp is adjustable from 300-400 (This is a VERY important feature. In the earlier models without an adjustment some foods could burn on the outside befor they were cooked through)

It does a SPECTACULAR job with bacon and other breakfast meats, boneless chicken breast, burgers and veggies. It does a GOOD job with bone-in chicken and meats.

My one complaint about these foreman grills is that the non-stick coating begins to flake off after about 500-600 uses (about 2 years in my house). It's a testiment to how useful they are, that when the coating begins flaking off I NEVER even think about not getting a new one. I just happily fork over the money for a new improved model. I think of it as only cost 5 cents per use, which is alot less than the per use cost on my bread machine, food processsor expresso machine etc...
