5.0 out of 5 stars Great inside grilling
This George Foreman is exactly what I was looking for. It grills perfect hamburgers and hotdogs. We've also done grilled eggplant and squash. Perfect!! We love this grill. The clean up is a breeze. This is our very first George and we wouldn't trade it for anything! GR5OV 50 style.

I thought it was going to be bigger than what it was, but it works great just the same. I love it and I cook on it everyday.

This grill was smaller than I thought it would be. It only fits 2 chicken breasts, 3 if you really squish. I love the heat dial and it's easy to clean.

The GF GR50V with controlling temps is the ultimate cooking devise. It's perfect for the single guy, and great with married couples.

I had the original "small" grille. It worked fine for single burgers, chops, etc. When the unit failed after many years of service, I decided to replace it with a larger one. I also wanted some control of the temp, because thicker foods would tend to burn before getting thoroughly cooked. This unit is the perfect size for me. 2 burgers, 2 chicken breasts, 2 boneless pork chops, etc. Those who complain about its size, get a bigger one. That's why George makes different size grilles. Duh. As for cleaning, here's a tip. When you're done cooking, unplug the grille, and while it's still hot, place 2 pieces of wet paper towels on the surface and close the lid. When you're done eating, the steaming action will have loosened the grime and you'll be able to easily wipe it clean with the towels. I also place paper towels between the surfaces while storing it so any surface-to-surface contact won't prematurely wear the Teflon coating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice grill but avoid fish, January 17, 2011
This review is from: George Foreman GR50V 50-Square-Inch Nonstick Grill with Variable Temperature Control (Kitchen)
I'm reviewing this product after using it for about a year. I'd had an older model and bought this one for the variable heat control to cook a wider variety of meats. Cooking temp worked out fine. But...

If you use this grill for fish you will NEVER get the smell out. I did everything I could, including dismantling it and cleaning the surfaces under the plates (which is not recommended by the manufacturer). Still no luck. Do yourself a favor and either buy a machine with removable plates or just avoid using those nice lower settings for fish.

this is still a really handy kitchen gadget. But not for meat. For vegetables. \

Yeah, we all have one and yeah, we all ignore it, after that first frenzy of New Appliance Madness. And yeah, nobody needs a George Foreman grill. A broiler does the same thing, and better, plus if you wrap the pan in tin foil, there is no clean up. So forget the chops and steaks and burgers. This is the best way to cook vegetables. They are actually edible. No, really. Green things can taste good.

I put vegetables in my Eat It or Die Category. Except, of course, potatoes, corn on the cob and turnips, which actually taste good. (If you dont think so about turnips, peel them, boil until soft with one peeled potato, then mash with lots (LOTS) of crisp fried salt pork and all the fat poured in. Good? You bet...but make sure you know somebody who has those heart paddles and can come over in a hurry.

Anyway, I accidentally sliced some vegetables one day, instead of just heaving them whole into boiling water (see review of new knife set). I had a carrot, a bell pepper, some fat, juicy Italian green beans. The George Foreman was sitting on the counter looking lonely, because I just never used it anymore. So I thought "what the heck" and threw the vegetables in there with a little salt and olive oil and whatever green herb was in the front of the spice rack sprinkled on top. Seven minutes later, I had edible vegetables. And they were not just edible, they were wonderful. I know seven minutes is a long time, but I prefer crunch in my potato chips and not my vegetables.

Sliced eggplant, onions (the best!), green onions, leeks sliced the long way, asparagus, even tomatoes...all are beautiful when cooked on the GF. Okay, the cabbage experiment resulted in some irate calls from neighbors who wanted to know if I was keeping a dead body, but still, overall, this is the best way to cook any vegetable outside of an outdoor grill. Even zucchini came out not disgusting.

So if you have stowed your George Foreman down in the depths of the cupboard with the pasta machine, the vegetable juicer and other appliances purchased because you were still awake at 3 a.m. and Ron Popeil broke through your defenses, dig it out. Slice up any vegetable and give it a shot. The vegetable will taste good. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true.

This is a great little machine for a new student leaving for college that will be living in his own apartment. It is well made, cleans up well and does a great job with hamburgers and chicken breasts. Probably not much more will be cooked on it at the college boys' apartment. Would recommend and buy again.
