When I first read the English metaphysical poets of the early 17th century, they knocked my socks off. They had a similar effect on T.S. Eliot, although he may have had a more refined way of expressing his impressions--see his masterpiece, "The Varieties of Metaphysical Poetry."Eminently worth studying for any poet or any Christian.
