5.0 out of 5 stars too late
i call this review too late because that's how MCA reacted to George's imput at the label. he recorded for them during 1991-1998 and never once did they release a "greatest hits" CD. whether radio or critics like to admit it or not, Ol' George was still having hits. almost all his hits during this period were below the #40 position but a "hit" nonetheless thanks to...

i call this review too late because that's how MCA reacted to George's imput at the label. he recorded for them during 1991-1998 and never once did they release a "greatest hits" CD. whether radio or critics like to admit it or not, Ol' George was still having hits. almost all his hits during this period were below the #40 position but a "hit" nonetheless thanks to maverick country stations who still played George on through the New Country '90s. i love his MCA singles and i wish MCA would've kept him around longer and be the label to claim the home of George Jones in 2000, the year he started his sixth consecutive decade recording music. this CD only favors the MCA singles of course. his duet with Patty Loveless, "You Don't Seem To Miss Me", in 1998 was on her label Epic/Sony and therefore it's not on this CD. "Patches" gives me goose bumps everytime George chimes in with the soaring chorus as the dying father trying to pass his legacy on to his son, a narrative/talking-blues by B.B. King in the role of "Patches". it's odd hearing his 1991 hits up against ones from 1996 or 1998. i say this because how much the industry had changed in that short time period. George kicked off his MCA stint with a bang only to have his intelligence insulted and get dumped cruelly instead of trying to promote him in other media besides country radio. he would have had gold albums right after the other if MCA would've sold his CDs over TV, a concept that Conway Twitty first explored but Ray Stevens would come to dominate in the '90s with his comedy home videos. ironically, Dee Henry, the widow of Conway Twitty, helped write the liner notes for this CD with Robert K. Oerman.
