5.0 out of 5 stars Great, March 28, 2000

This review is from: George Jones & Melba Montgomery (Audio CD)
Two great country music artists. This is a must have. Everyone knows George Jones is one of the best, but Melba Montgomery has a unique one of a kind voice. With the two of them teamed up together it is awsome. This is a great buy, and I will highly recommend it. allcountrygirl@webtv.net

4.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Gem, June 16, 2001

If you're a George Jones fan but haven't heard this CD, you should check it out. He and Melba Montgomery were musical soulmates with a lot of the same hard country feel in their singing styles. The songs, while good, are certainly not the best material Jones has recorded. But the chemistry between the two singers goes a long, long way, as does the solid session players in the background. Oh, and be prepared for reverb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mostly upbeat traditional country, April 11, 2005

This review is from: George Jones & Melba Montgomery (Audio CD)
To those who think that traditional country music is full of really sad songs, this budget compilation shows that it's not all like that. This compilation has eight duets and two solo tracks. The two solos (From here to the door by George and They bought the house next door by Melba) are sad, providing a sharp contrast the duets.

A look at the track listing is misleading. Some of the titles suggest upbeat songs but the others (apart from the solos) are also upbeat. The standout is, of course, We must have been out of our minds - the song that George and Melba are best remembered for as a duo. Other great tracks include Party picking, Living on easy street, Everybody oughta sing a song and Let's live together.

One day (I hope), somebody will put together a really great package of George and Melba's duets. Meanwhile, this serves as a reminder of just hoe great they were together. While George's recording career continued into the new millennium, Melba faded into obscurity - however, she is a great songwriter and made a career of it once her recording days were over. Her name still appears in the songwriting credits on contemporary country albums.
