Editorial Reviews

Product Description

He starred in his own hit sitcom, recorded Grammy-nominated comedy albums, scored a string of Hollywood hits, wrote a best-selling book, and became the first Hispanic American ever to host a late-night talk show. So what’s George Lopez going to do for an encore? Find out, when Lopez returns to HBO for his third live solo stand-up special, direct from the 7,000-seat Nokia Theatre in LA (site of the Primetime Emmy Awards).

Amazon.com

Comedian George Lopez has grown into one of America's funniest standup comics. His HBO special It's Not Me, It's You is edgier than his early material, and just as funny. Lopez continues to mine his Hispanic roots--and delivers a fair amount of this performance in Spanish. He has some choice words for the borderline-racist sheriff in Arizona, Joe Arpaio, as well as for one-time Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. His topical comedy is hilarious, but Lopez also finds the small moments in everyday life that are perplexing and amusing, much like Jerry Seinfeld does. His bit on women and snoring will ring uncomfortably true for men and women--and maybe even rappers. Lopez is not a larger-than-life comic like, say, Chris Rock; but Lopez's strength is in being completely willing to be himself--and a very loud version of himself. Lopez fans will love this performance, and comedy lovers not as familiar with Lopez definitely should check it out. --A.T. Hurley

Unnecessary foul language, a little is okay, but this is too much.

I wish I could give this MINUS stars - this was disgusting. We have seen George in concert before and really liked him, and we love Blue-Collar Comedy. But George seems to rely now on the "F" word to be a large part of every sentence - and if you can't find anything funny to say without that word dragging it down, then you're just no fun to listen to. We tried - we really did - but ended up turning it off after a short while. We had better things to watch.

I am very disappointed. I heard him before and he was very funny, but this time I didn't laugh.

I did not think he was funny most of the time and I thought he was racist. If a white american told some of the same jokes turning around who was being talked about they would be called racists. I love stand up comedy but I did not enjoy this.

But this time, he was NOT funny. F' bombs all over the place. I prefer Fluffy aka Gabriel Iglesias. He doesn't swear, yet he is very funny.
So, disappointed, George.

The only thing lit up was his mouth, with self identifying f-bombs to promote humor through a racial binary/paradox furthered by ignorant cultural awareness. Mispronouncing "peligro" concerning floor mopping and labor stereotypes was honest enough on the surface for simple humor, but quickly denigrated into classless tacky overgeneralizations for audience applause. Save your time and get to know your neighbor beyond ethnic walls, not just in the workplace or school, but in your home and houses of worship. Become real friends with real Anglos/Latinos who share genuine laughs together. For indigenous understanding, visit Ixtepec in Oaxaca, not just Guadalajara in Jalisco.

I don't care for deprecating humor even if it does expose some the current poor parenting some people are exhibiting. Maybe I'm just too serious...at least where this subject is concerned. Both groups of people he ridiculed need help, not sarcasm. When he talked about the way Latinos raise their children I became very uncomfortable, because in much of it, it wasn't any better than crummy upper class parents are doing to parent their children.

I have seen George Lopez live and he was very funny. I figured that watching this would surely be a repeat performance. It was not. The jokes are just not funny and his pokes at politics and race were less funny. A lot of the jokes were ones I've already heard from his live performance. Overall, this was very underwhelming.
