I'll leave the writing of a lengthy review to anyone else inclined. I would simply say that this is a well crafted, very interesting biography. I knew nothing of McCleod before this book. He was, like all of us, a man with a generous array of faults; but this book portrays him as a highly gifted, larger than life figure who in many ways left his part of the world better than he found it.
