5.0 out of 5 stars Just a plain old guy
Wow - if you are in awe at how the American public could have elected this man as our most powerful politician, read this book! We can't all be rocket scientists, but, on the other hand, we're not running for president... This book is truly Laugh out loud - really reads like a comedy, even the introduction is hysterical! I highly recommend it

3.0 out of 5 stars Lincoln, Jefferson, FDR step aside. Here's George!
You'd like to admire George Bush; or you wish you could. Here, in his own words, Bush manages to terrify--again. The POTUS cannot speak coherently. It's all sort of amusing, until you think about the man's job! From the book: "I don't read what's handed to me." How does this work with foreign relations? Do translaters correct it? And to the American public:...

When W was elected, I thought that the most blatant display of his ineffectiveness as a leader would be his constant errors in public speaking engagements. What I have come to realize during the last two years is that while quite telling, this book doesn't even begin to address the real problems that come with having Bush as our nation's leader. The book is funny, if you can read it without remembering that this man is making decisions about a war whose justifications he cannot articulate.

Too funny. Short and to the point. W's phrases are captured and left to linger on each page. What each reader thinks of this man is obvious. God bless comedians.

Try this one on for size

I glance at the headlines just to kind of get a flavor for what's moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves." --Washington, D.C., Sept. 21, 2003

That says it all there. I really can't explian how this guy got elected but his quotes make for some hilarious reading.

Overall-If you ever need to laugh make sure you have this book handy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, Yet Depressing, August 22, 2005
This review is from: George W. Bushisms : The Slate Book of The Accidental Wit and Wisdom of our 43rd President (Paperback)
I bought this book as a Christmas gift for my boss, but before giving it to him I had to thumb through it. I can't believe this guy is the leader of the free world! If I was in my pre 9-11 mentality I may have found it more amusing. Don't get me wrong, it is a funny (and unbelievable) book. But sometimes it is easier to sleep at night if you aren't aware of the true extent of the president's stupidness.

And to the American public: "I know how hard it is to put food on your family." We know what he meant but, shouldn't he be able to string four or five words together in some sensible way?

Maybe I'm too steeped in adoration for past Presidents? Visiting the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials in D.C., we weep at the beauty of their words-- graceful, thoughtful, far-seeingly eloquent. Who is this man in our White House and what sort of monument and manuscript would capture him? As a patriot, I am alarmed and saddened. Surely, Young George is perfectly charming-- except he's in the highest seat of power in the world! (And "Bushims" is a constant reminder.)

All of this said, these are indeed Yogi Berra-type malapropisms, and the book will be a fine addition to one's guest bathroom-- short, snappy, unbelievable! Goofy pictures accompany the ramblings such as: "I do know I'm ready for this job [the presidency]. And if not, that's the way it goes." Weisberg has inserted a title for each quote. For example, "Arrested For Driving While Reading" is followed by the Bushism: "I mean, there needs to be a wholesale effort against racial profiling, which is illiterate children." Huh?

Well, there it is, the wit and wisdom of George W. Bush. I keep wondering: Does Laura cringe? What are Old George and Barb thinking when he commits these gaffs? Do they feel guilty? Did they do this to us because we didn't re-elect the dad? Truly baffled. I can't believe the former First Lady could have let this man loose. I trusted her. Didn't you?

4.0 out of 5 stars Scary but true, August 11, 2001

This review is from: George W. Bushisms : The Slate Book of The Accidental Wit and Wisdom of our 43rd President (Paperback)
It never ceases to amaze me just how moronic he can be, especially in public. This book exemplifies what the man is made of. One can't help but infer from this collection of quotations that Bush and his wranglers are motivated not only by ignorance, but by money and hypocrisy as well. This book is not the author’s opinion, but quotes taken right from the horse's mouth - on public record. Scary but true!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good laugh, May 20, 2004

It's frightening that this man is even in the white house. It's hard not to laugh though. I'm not convinced he's not tripping the majority of the time. If you liked this book check out THE GEORGE W. BUSH COLORING BOOK which turns a few of the best bushisms into hysterical, laugh out loud illustrations.

Just like Bugs Bunny used to say!

This book made us laught so hard we almost wet our pants. We can't write too much of an in depth review here, let alone a serious one. We can't make fun of GWB2, as he does it sooo well himself. But, if you want a light hearted funny (and sad, well sad for a POTUS), then have a read. A few bucks well spent. This book is filled with the great intelligence that our 43rd president shows. It's funny and will make you glad of one thing... you are smarter than the President!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Having a few laughs on the worst president ever, January 1, 2007
By
This review is from: George W. Bushisms : The Slate Book of The Accidental Wit and Wisdom of our 43rd President (Paperback)
I'll make this review short and to the point. Reading the quotes in this book shows what a moron George W. Bush essentially is. It's very funny but it's not at all funny to realize that such a cretin is the most powerful man in the world. Although he tries hard to not make such glaring mistakes in his public speaking these days, he has proven his inborn stupidity by racking up an astronomical federal deficit and mismanaging the most useless war America has ever been involved in. Most of the content of this short book is from 2000 but it was certainly a warning of things to come if enough people were stupid enough to vote for this stupid man. Of course, the 2000 election was stolen but if it hadn't been so close, the hijacking of the presidency couldn't have happened. However, stupidity reigns in America so just read this book and have a good laugh. The joke's on us all.
