5.0 out of 5 stars George Washington Carver ,The Man Who Overcame by L Elliot- Great Book, October 12, 2008
An older out of print book but very, very well written, by Lawrence Elliot about a WONDERFUL Renaissance Man; Scientist, Biologist,Artist, Musician, Inventor, Homeopath,Painter, Chef,Teacher and Great Christian, who gave freely of his time and talents to all peoples, white and black, etc.with love and kindness. Born into slavery, orphaned, raised by a humble white family,he educated himself;a bit of help from dear friends along the way whom he never forgot,he accomplished practical miracles..."Presidents Coolidge and Roosevelt came to see him..foreign governments sought his counsel,as did people everywhere, and Henry Wallace and Ford and Ghandi were his friends"..T Edison offered him a job at $100,000- per year which he turned down to serve people at home in the South during difficult times. "he could have added fortune to fame but found happiness and honor in being helpful to the world"..he loved and trusted our God,- he freely shared his faith, wisdom, humor and all his work with and for mankind, humbly with love. I wish we had many such men with us Today, when we have so much need of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful story, March 7, 2010
This review is from: George Washington Carver: The Man Who Overcame (Hardcover)
I couldn't put this book down. A beautifully written story of Carver's life, and his faith in God to provide for every need. He was such a humble man. Truly a moving story, and a book that I must keep on the book shelf to be read again.

This is a wonderful book. Everyone should read this book to learn about this wonderful man. This should be required reading in our schools. This man was probably our greatest American scientist black or white. Very inspiring story.
