A very good book for both black history and plant science. The book is nicely written and allows the reader to get involved in George Washington Carver's life. Highly recommended.

While my 10 and 12 year olds enjoyed reading this short book about George Washington Carver's life, so did I! This book has a lot of pictures, an interesting layout and informative, clear text. I highly recommend it as a biography of Carver for kids!

For my son's first grade curriculum, I had to teach him about George Washington Carver. This particular book was a great introduction into who George Washington Carver is and how he impacted life in early America. It is also a great example of an in depth history report!

I loved how this book was written as a child's science report. It gave my 2nd graders a connection to their reports. I think it would be AMAZING if more books could be written by Laura Driscoll about more historical figures! Write more please!!!!

This book did an excellent job, for young readers, of describing the life of a great scientist. At the least, it should encourage young children to read. In addition, the book is written in such a way that it may inspire some children to study hard, and maybe even instill high ethical standards in a very few.

A great start for young readers, this book engages the child and adult alike with real photos as well as colorful, fun drawings. It is written as though it is a report from a kid and it includes an honest but encouraging summary of Carver's life, anecdotes from the "student's" own life, ideas for easy science experiments, factoids about peanuts, and reflections on the life of G.W.C. I loved learning about this unique historical figure and I think this book is a must for anyone who wants a well-rounded view of history and science for their students or for themselves. I did not grow up knowing about G.W. Carver, and now that I have read this book with my children, I wonder why he isn't a household name along with the likes of Lincoln and Edison!
Note: For those who care, I do not know if this book is really written by a child or at least inspired by a real child's report. There is a picture of the narrator eating peanut butter inside the book, but Driscoll appears to be an author of other children's books besides this one. I did not see any clarification inside the book, but perhaps I overlooked some fine print.

I love the way this book is written. The kids enjoy reading it, even though the we knew the information in it. It is pretty basic review of GWC. We ordered the States, Presidents and Chocolate books (Smart About...) after reading this one. Very enjoyable.

I bought several books for an orphanage in Ethiopia - the kids speak 3 languages, including English and are ravenous readers. They loved this book and all the others I sent!
