George Washington: The Forging of a Nation,
By james j. neri (Berlin, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: George Washington 2: Forging of a Nation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Barry Bostwick, Patty Duke and the solid supporting cast are all back to reprise their roles from the first movie "George Washington". This adds a great deal of cohesiveness and credibility to this most excellent sequel. The external, internal politics, philosophical challenges and profound decisions faced by Washington were many. There was no frame-work or previous example to work from or adopt for this great experiment in democracy. "Forging of a Nation" is about just that; the trials, tribulations and challenges faced by Washington and the other important men who "set the course", helped to create, shape, and keep this country from falling apart right at the start. To see this great event dramatized is inspiring. By today's political standards it's hard to believe it was even possible to accomplish it at all. That in itself makes watching this movie a real treat. As with the first movie, it is fairly accurate, well acted and a great and true story. You don't have to see "George Washington" to enjoy and comprehend "Forging of a Nation". It stands well on it's own as a dramatization of the founding of the USA but I recommend it for the "full historical experience". I also highly recommend "Forging of a Nation" for all history fans, people who like movies about true events or for those who just want to better understand why we are here.

If you are looking for an accurate, balanced portrayal (not a documentary) of George Washington's adult life on video, this is the best you will find. Based upon James Flexner's excellent biography of Washington, this video is well-acted and historically very accurate. It is also very entertaining. My daughters (8 and 4) enjoyed it as well as the adults. It is Part II of a 2-part series. Be sure to watch Part I first!

If anyone has a copy of this for sale, please feel free to e-mail me along with your price. I cannot find this video anywhere. Not even at the library! The cast are very good in relaying to the viewers, real, honest human beings as the founding fathers. I wished that I could own this movie and put it in my presidential movie collections.

I was crazy about this miniseries. I felt like GW was a friend I went to visit every evening or two. I looked forward to each episode as a child might look forward to visiting a beloved grandfather. (I suppose that early in the movie it was more like visiting a beloved son.)

This is one of the best productions I have seen on the subjects. I have bought this on VHS, but I cannot locate it anywhere on DVD. Any idea why this has never been offered on DVD?
