This documentery needs to be on DVD. I have this on VHS and love it. It is the only movie around about George Washington. the Cast is great. History isnt all dates and battles. these people lived and had flaws. In a time of great need to this nation Washington stood up and was counted. This needs to be in schools so kids can see it.

This is by far the most complete and best attempt at chronicling in (dramatic film fashion) the life of George Washington done to date. Washington's life, actions and accomplishments permanently impacted and greatly influenced this country and the entire world. To portray a real life man such as that is a challenge. Barry Bostwick does an admirable job as Washington and Patty Duke puts in a very good performance as Martha. The supporting cast in general is solid. While there is some artistic liberty taken with certain facts the story is fairly accurate. The movie is long but it does cover allot of his early life and US history. I highly recommend this movie and the sequel "The Forging of a Nation".

I will leave it to others to write a synopsis of the characters and story of this series based on the books by James Thomas Flexner. I have seven children ranging from two years of age up to fifteen. Every member of my family, all nine of us, are GLUED to it every time we watch it. It is excellent for family viewing.
This title and it's sequel, George Washington: Forging of a Nation, belong in every home and every library in the country! When will we see them on DVD?!!!

I,like so many, saw this movie when I was in school and was totally enthralled by it...I also agree that it needs to be released on DVD. This movie is a must see for anyone interested in history or for anyone of school-age that is studying George Washington. It is an excellent representation of the era, and what it must have been like to be the man. It ranks up there with the North and South movie. I do not own this at the present time, but I am on a list to receive it, if one can be located for me.

I was so fortunate to find both George Washinton and the sequel-The Forging of the Nation (Five videos in all) It has become a Fourth of July tradition to gather and watch this great series. The cast is excellent. It must be put on DVD.

I do not have the movie, but in 1984 I saw the series when it came in tv. I have seen it once sence that date. I was 9 years old when it came out. This is the best movie about the life of George Washington there is. In all aspects.

This 3 tape set and it's 2 tape set sequel, "George Washington: The Forging of a Nation" will be among the best investments you will ever make for family entertainment and education. My entire family (kids age 0- 11) are glued to it each time we view it! Additionally, both sets would serve well in all elementary school, high school, and college libraries. Viewers of all ages will enjoy it. I highly recommend both it and the sequel!

I agree this series has to be on DVD for it is far too long and expensive to be put on three videocasettes. I also remember watching this and loved it as well. I love period and history movies and I would most definitely buy this for my collection. I don't know who makes the decisions as to why this movie is NOT on DVD, but I wish they would make up their minds and convert this to DVD.

The mini-series was one of the most accurate portrayals of George Washington's life that could possibly be crammed into a few hours of viewing. Perhaps one of the little know facts of the world is that Mr. Washington was responsible in his actions for starting the 7 years war. This and other factual representations of the colonial era are acted out very well! It is a wonderfull series and I would highly recommend watching it, along with reading the wonderful biography from which it was created.

Barry Bostwick did an excellent job of portraying George Washington in this miniseries. He helped make GW even more of a hero to me than he was before. I have shown the movie to my classes (I teach American History) for several years during our discussions on Washington, and it has proven to be both entertaining and educational. I highly recommend it to everyone.
