This review is from: George Wright Goes South Pacific (Audio CD)
This is an audacious album in some respects. It's one thing to pump out organ versions of "Some Enchanted Evening" or "This Nearly Was Mine" like a bargain label Lowry Organ LP. It's quite another to record an entire Broadway score, including the Overture, "There's nothing like a dame" & "Bloody Mary." As usual, Wright plays with skill, & the kind of wit fine organists have that feels corny on the surface but isn't really what the joke is all about. Bob Rixon, WFMU-FM |
