Book Description

A young man, not yet out of his teens, sets off on a trip across the ocean to London in 1751. His aim is simple: to make his fortune. To transform himself from the no-account, tradesman surveyor younger son of a middling Virginia tobacco planter to a titled, monied success in the sprawling capital of the mother country. And the only allies he has in this quest are an African American sailor and a fashion-obsessed German Baron.
George in London tells of this young man's remarkable adventure in the mighty mid-18th century city of London. His story is the tale of every young fellow on the make, trying to raise himself up by his own bootstraps. It's also the story of his encounters with a beautiful French countess and his struggles to win her heart.
Will he make it? Will the the young man and the countess retire to their country estate after taking London by storm? All the answers are contained in George in London. Read it and see. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Written October 23, 2011
By P.S.
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
It takes skill to write convincing historical fiction, even more so when your narrator is a man of his time, in this case an educated and well-read master mariner and former slave who admits, with struggling humility, to being an expert on almost everything. I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and the humor, the 18th century settings and playful historical references, and certainly the quality of Tim Queeney's pen. Most of all I enjoyed the credible friendship that develops between the 24 year old Darius Attucks and the 19 year old George Washington. It foreshadows more from our first-president-to-be, of course, but hopefully from Mr. Attucks and Tim Queeney as well. "George in London" is a beautifully written book that I recommend to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Ready! October 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
George in London is an excellent novel, filled with witty and humorous writing. If your a History buff, in particular an American History buff than this is your book. Queeney has a way with words that will leave you delighted and entertained. If you think this novel is a stuffy, old boring book about the George Washington who you were forced to learn about in Jr. High, how wrong you are my friend. George in London is definitely not your average historical novel, but it can easily be compared with the beloved story Flashman at the Charge by George MacDonald. If you're not a big History buff don't worry, take a chance. I promise, it's worth it! I highly recommend this novel and I look forward to Queeney's future work.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun, refreshing, and absolutely hilarious August 20, 2011
By Scott
Format:Kindle Edition
Right from the beginning, Mr. Queeney demonstrates his mastery of comedy, and an outstanding ability to tell a funny story in a manner that makes it very difficult to put the book down. He uses a keen sense of human nature and folly to bring his characters to life, greatly assisted by his extensive knowledge of history. I got hooked right away, and I literally could not help bursting out with laughter as I turned the pages. At the same time, I became thoroughly immersed in the vivid sights, smells, and scenes of London in the 1700's. This is a book for everyone. I'd highly recommend it...if I was a school teacher, it'd be required reading, just to bring history to life, and laughter. This book is fresh, and hilarious, but it also brings us together as Americans and makes some interesting social comments, at a time in our history when we can really use it. I already know half a dozen people who have read it and it's a unanimous thumbs up. Bring on the book series, the movie, the tv show sequels, it can't miss.

More About the Author

Thanks for checking out my author page. I currently have three books for sale here on Amazon.

In The Atlas Fracture, the latest Perry Helion thriller, Perry is sent to investigate a pioneering scientific project in Antarctica that has gone strangely wrong. Once he's at the expedition site he finds himself pulled into a devilish terrorist plan that could wreak havoc in Antarctica and kill millions worldwide. Only Perry and a young woman scientist can stop the terrorist team.

The SHIVA Compression, the first book in the Perry Helion series is set in the late 1990s. In SHIVA, a small Air Force team led by Lt. Helion must stop a doomsday computer virus from starting WWIII.

The third book is a humorous historical fiction novel called George in London (yes, THAT George -- when he was 19 years and seeking his fortune in London -- okay, that never really happened, but the book is funny!).

In addition to writing books, I am a magazine editor, filmmaker, celestial navigation instructor, a dad and offshore sailor.

I live in Maine and can hear the fog horns of three lighthouses when the fog rolls in -- and when my black lab finds herself on the wrong side of the door.
