It has been 20 years since I graduated from college. I am making a career change and am going back to school to get my MAT and certification to teach. I was worried about remembering material from so long ago. I worked my way through the book in 2 weeks (I started studying much too late); taking all the tests. The book offers 2 separate tests for each area: mathematics, reading and writing. It also shows you what a grade of 4 would look like on the writing portion. When it came time to take the exam, I was relaxed and knew how the testing would be structured. I would reccomend this to anyone!!

I have been out of school for 20 years and decided to go back and get my masters in early childhood education. This book helped me pass the test the very first time! It is broken down into questions that are very similar to the ones on the actual test. I found it much easier than the book published by a company from California. This book is written by GA professors who are on the cutting edge. In fact, I'm getting ready to purchase a new book from this company. I'm purchasing the middle grades math study guide to make me more marketable since I've just passed the early childhood GACE. Good luck! Don't hesitate to buy this.

The GACE which is the acronym for (Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators®) is a compilation of many different tests that demonstrate that the individual has a comprehensive academic knowledge in the specific area of testing. The Basic Skills is obviously one that every P-12th grade public school teacher would need in order to satisfy Georgia teaching requirements.

If you take all three of the basic skills tests which includes reading, mathematics and writing it will encompass 5 actual hours of time and the additional hour or so of getting set up for the test will NOT be included in your allowable four hours for taking the tests. The tests are all very similar to the questions in the book and there should NOT be any other book needed in order to perform well on these tests. While there were far more complicated mathematics problems in the book than on the test it was a good foundation for the material to be covered. I consult at the Institute for Family Strength and work with many individuals on career advisement and would strongly recommend this book.

I would recommend taking a week to four weeks dependent upon your needs to evaluate and practice for the test(s). The book is very manageable and broken down into sections much the same way that the test is I am doctorally trained and still had forgotten many of the basic skills and the GACE Basic Skills book was a marvelous refresher. At first, I was cool, yet after hearing negative I became really nervous about TEST DAY.I really didn't know which study guide to purchase, but I knew that I needed some study material. I purchased this book about 2 months before the test. No, I didn't boggle myself for hours everyday, but I did devote time to study. The beginning of the book even helps you with a skeleton study pattern up to test day, very convenient.
The book gives you an overview of the test content, yet in an effective matter. There are plenty of practice exams with explanations. Also, the cd really will define your weak area by the test simulation. During the test, I paced myself and I passed FIRST TRY!! I will recommend this book to anybody because the test is no joke (4 hours if you take all 3 sections). The setup of the test is very similar to the book. Definitely a great choice!!

The guide was an excellent resource. Follow the directions at the front of the book and pass! I did! The structure is set in place; just follow what it says and repeat if you feel led. The included CD is benefitial too! It helps to experience what it will truly be like the day of the test. I do not take tests well, but I passed the GACE Basic Skills Test when I used this aid!

Came on time, brand-spanking new. Helped a lot for the GACE. The book was actually more challenging then the test which is good cause then you're over-prepared. Studied for 3 weeks and passed all sections.

Not sure what GACE test everyone else took, but the test I took had nothing to do with this book. I only studied the math portion and felt confident to take the test. After getting started on the math test, I realized that what I studied was NOT on this test! Luckily I was familiar with a lot of the math problems. Out of 48 questions, I would say only 5(give or take) were on the actual test. I was very disappointed and felt like I wasted my time and my money!

This book really helped me study. Took the test and it matched up great with all the things covered on the GACE basic skills.

I didn't want to do this review until after I have taken the test which will be August 20, 2011. That's why I only gave it 4 stars. However,thus far, what I have read and studied it seems to be the best thing out there and it does give really great advice. It has certainly been worth the price for the information inside. You also get to take 2 practice test which I think helps a lot. It not only gives the answers in the back so you can check, but it gives an explanation of why an answer was the correct one and not the following. I didn't have time in my schedule to do a workshop, so for me this was the next best thing or as good as! If I pass then you will know it's a sure thing because I am the worst test taker! I'll try to come back and let you know!:o)

Bought this book a month ago to get ready for the test. Im decent in reading and writing but it's been years since I've had college algebra so I was a little nervous about that section. This book is so awesome for explaining everything and giving tips. It even shows you step by step how they got the answers, which I really needed. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs to refresh. And by the way, I passed on my first try!!
