First published as London: The Art of Georgian Building, this book has been widely acclaimed as a classic study of London's town houses built between 1700 and 1821 - the greatest period of British architecture. Dan Cruickshank's text, combined with
numerous photographs and Peter Wyld's superbly executed measured drawings of facades and details, is a unique record of these buildings.

Now, this book has been re-issued at £14.99.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'Fine photographs, exact and exquisite measured drawings and terse factual text. Ideal pictorial supplement to Summerson's earlier Georgian London.'
The Sunday Times

5.0 out of 5 stars Extensive, Illuminating, and Beautiful, January 8, 2011
This book from the Architectural Press is a refreshingly focused look at the Georgian Architecture at London which combines current photography and illustrations with a period prints and other 18th (and some 19th) century design resources. For example, one gets visual information excerpted from Langley's 1747 London Prices of Bricklayers' Materials and Work (!) plus 20th century drafting which then demonstrates how the golden section was applied to window design reinforced with a current photograph of a London window.

This is not to say that the only joys of this book are that historical and geektastic. The images of handsome exteriors, doorways, facades, and street scenes are a joy to behold in and of themselves.

Released several times over the years in hardback and paperback, over 200 pp with something like over 300 b&w illustrations, Bibliography, and Street Index.
