1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
Total waste of money. I would have liked to give it "0" stars but it wouldn't let me. Absolutely a waste of time and energy for these musicians.

I gave this recording a star simply because the honor went to one of R&B's premiere male vocalists. Gerald has amassed an impressive body of work that would easily lend itself to jazz imterpretations and like these reviewers, the propsect itself was most exciting.

But put this on and disappointment becomes a masterpiece of understatement. Quite frankly, Luther's jazz tribute disc wasn't all that but far, far superior to this. The arrangements indeed had a smooth jazz flair with top-notch jazz musicians so that even when some of the arrangements missed the mark somewhat, you still got a noteworthy treatment.

That is not the case at ALL here!

This is a lousy tribute album and Gerald deserves INFINITELY better than this!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disgraceful, March 14, 2007
This review is from: Gerald Levert Smooth Jazz Tribute (Audio CD)
This CD sounds like a Prom band in a bad movie or something you would hear at a Wake. I waited months to hear Gerald's music be butchered? This and a few other Jazz Tributes should be removed from the market.

I love jazz and Gerald Levert so I was looking forward to this. This CD is terrible, really rating less than 1 star. The musicians sound like a good high school jazz band. Very disappointing.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Little Disappointed..., March 5, 2007

This review is from: Gerald Levert Smooth Jazz Tribute (Audio CD)
This is the first 'Smooth Jazz Tribute' cd that I have purchased, so I was not sure what to expect. I love Gerald Levert's music and the thought of owning a Jazz CD of some of his greatest songs is very appealing. This cd is a little disappointing though. It is arranged and composed by the SmoothJazz All Stars, but I believe that my son's high school jazz combo could do a better job. This cd is just not as soulful as Gerald's music; it doesn't even scratch the surface. It is a little boring and uninspiring. The best track is Written All Over Your Face.

From the beginning, I have am a huge "G" fan. This product should be recalled from the shelves and the label releasing this foolishness should be ashamed of themselves. They should have named it "Learn to play Gerald Levert in Three Weeks" and sold it on the 2 a.m. "As Seen on TV" ads. Don't buy this mess - it wouldn't even work for karaoke.

1.0 out of 5 stars very very poor, March 7, 2007
This review is from: Gerald Levert Smooth Jazz Tribute (Audio CD)
I waited for over a month and a half. To be so dissapointed in this Cd. I love jazz tributes and even Gerald himself would be lost on this one. No smooth grooves and surely could use a touch of jazz vocalists also. The tribute to Luther is something that the producers of this Cd needs to listen to and get a few lessons from it. not even deserving of a star
