The Delightful Accompanist,
By A Customer
This review is from: Gerald Moore: The Unashamed Accompanist - Testament (Audio CD)
Being a piano accompanist myself, I listened to this CD with keen interest. And result? I loved it! Gerald Moore was not only an unashamed accommpanist, but a delightful one as well. He reveals the importance of piano accompaniment part that is often overlooked. His demonstrations at piano are truely imaginative and shows how words and stories are reflected in the piano part. His talk about transposition brings up a point that I often felt myself: by transposing to a different key, the song changes its color and atmosphere. His narrations are delightful, peppered with plenty of humor and annecdotes. Listen to tracks 21 and 22 for taste of Moore's wonderful sense of humor. Track 22 is amuzing in another sense: Moore is singing (mimicking??)a song from "Dichterliebe", accompanied(!) by Victoria de los Angeles. This CD is a "must" for any serious singers and piano accompanists.

I have an old LP of this same album, but it has not weathered the years well (I've had it at least 35 years). I was delighted to discover that it had been released on CD and I ordered it. It is a faithful copy of the original and the sound is excellent. I could not be more happy!
