Book Description

June 1, 2006
"The Geranium Farm Cook Book" is a collection of recipes and lore offered by The Geranium Farmers, the 10,000+ members of the worldwide virtual community of spiritual seekers created by Episcopal priest, author, lecturer, and spiritual director Barbara Cawthorne Crafton. As "farmers?" began sharing recipes with each other via the e-mail list and the Geranium Farm website (www.geraniumfarm.org), the idea for a cookbook was born. Because Barbara Crafton devoutly believes in the "life is short--eat dessert first" school of theology, the desserts section is first and longest. Each recipe in the book includes a description of how the recipe came to be part of the writer's family or what traditions surround its use. Each of the main dish recipes has a wine suggestion accompanying it, recommended by the executive chef at a noted restaurant in North Carolina's Smoky Mountains. And interspersed among the recipes are meditations by Barbara Crafton on food, cooking, and community.

5.0 out of 5 stars Packed with delicious dishes., September 23, 2006
This review is from: The Geranium Farm Cookbook (Paperback)
The Geranium Farm evolved from Reverand Crafton's imagination and evolved not from the usual restaurant roots, but from an online parish ministry where 'Farmers' began sharing recipes with each other via an email list. Main desserts, appetizers, breakfasts and brunches - the largest section being desserts - are provided in a guide which blends recipes and lore. From a grandmother's Dutch cookies to a Sugar-Free Banana Pudding, Mother's Rhubarb Pie, and more, THE GERANIUM FARM COOKBOOK is packed with delicious dishes. No color photos, but the easy recipes don't need 'em.

This review is from: The Geranium Farm Cookbook (Paperback)
This cookbook is especially wonderful for those of us who loves desserts. The dessert section is not only the first section, it is by far the longest. The recipes in this book that I have used are easy to follow and delicious. But what I like most is the author's commentary. Her witty personality comes through in the introductions to the recipes, but also in many cases in the recipes themselves. It's fun just to read the book, whether or not I'm looking for a recipe to use. This is a cookbook to which I turn often, especially when I want to learn some new "comfort foods."
