Good box cutter,
This review is from: Gerber 05898 Serrated Ridge Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
This design 'blantantly cop[ies] Ed Hal[l]igan's design' because he sold it to Gerber, like most intelligent knife makers do to make a living.
If you need a small blade to open boxes, bags and cut up to about 3/8" rope - this is the ticket. At sub-$20 it's practically disposable compared to when the K.I.S.S. design was released. It's certainly not designed for hard tasks, to be used all day long or for self defense - if you need those functions look elsewhere. The blade can open in your pocket and may while digging in pockets for other stuff - check out the Gerber "Trendy" model if that is a concern for you. Also the black will wear off quickly so if you want 'longterm pretty' get a full stainless knife.

Good knife for an electritians needs.,
This review is from: Gerber 05898 Serrated Ridge Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
This 3" long knife is the perfect size to fit into your tool belt. Others have taken umbrage with the short blade, however as an electrition, it is the perfect length for slicing down the center of romex. I have had mine for over six months (a testimate to the fact that I do my best to not loose it) and it has yet to get dull. Furthermore, the serated edge works perfectly for fileting the insulation of high guage wire and SE cable. If you're an electrition or you have similar needs to those listed above, then this is the knife for you. I have seen this for $9.99 at my local hardware store. You cannot beat this knife at that price. jay.

Perfect pocket knife,

This is a very durable and functional little pocket knife. I was wary of the size at first, but I have had NO problems with opening/closing. The blade maintains an edge extremely well. I carry this and a Gerber multi-purpose tool daily and this little guy gets a workout. It goes through parachute cord (nylon cord with 7 inner cords) and envelopes with equal ease. No issues with pocket damage and yes, I've even used it as a money clip with no one noticing (just don't forget to put it in your checked baggage at the Airport).

I use this knife every day. This is the second one I've owned, I've bought them for gifts and wouldn't think of being without it.
The real wonder of this knife happens when you put it on your key chain. I cannot overstate how convenient this is. You always have your keys with you so now, without having to remember anything extra, you have a brilliant little knife on you too.

My second purchase, love multiuse small pocket knife. It has smooth & serrated cutting for wood/paper or wire.
I use as money clip. Great little knife, and it's a Gerber American product!!

I've had this knife for 3 years and it works perfectly even after moderate-heavy usage and several accidental washes. Anyone that would use this knife as a primary cutting/stabbing tool is either stupid or an amateur. My primary uses for this knife is for opening packages, cutting up small wires, plastic wrappers and engraving (marking) property. I'm a soldier and personally I carry at least 2 different knives at any give time. I keep this knife clipped to my back pocket just incase my primary knife isn't available. As for the people calling this a CRKT KISS knockoff, the blade on the Ridge is made in the USA by Gerber, not some POS steel from China or Taiwan like the KISS. I've noticed that CRKT knives can't retain their edges over prolonged usage as good as American made blades i.e. Benchmade or Gerber. I have never sharpened my Ridge since I've bought it and the blade is still as sharp as it was when it came out of the box.

neat little knife with one glaring flaw,
This review is from: Gerber 05898 Serrated Ridge Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've never used the CRKT KISS, the knife upon which the ridge was apparently based, so I can't offer any comparison of the two. I bought the ridge to do small tasks, such as opening mail and cardboard boxes, etc. Its small size makes it an appropriate knife for such tasks, as it is light and thin, fitting unobtrusively when clipped in my pocket. It opens smoothly and locks firmly in place. Contrary to reviews complaining about the handle ergonomics, it is quite comfortable in light use. My main problem with the knife is in its single edge design. The single ground edge is supposed to allow the knife to be constructed with a single sided handle, leaving one edge of the blade exposed when it is closed. Rather than sitting on the handle and thereby sealing the edge, my ridge has a small gap between the blade and the handle. This hasn't proven to be a serious problem, as only the tip of the blade poses any sort of a snagging risk. I haven't cut myself or any pockets due to this issue, but only time will tell. I only paid 10 bucks for the knife new on eBay so its worth having for the kind of tasks I need it for.

Gerber Ridge Knife Excellent compact tool,
By A Customer
This review is from: Gerber 05898 Serrated Ridge Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
An excellent, compact knife that is stealth in appearance and extremely durable. It is affordable at under 25.00 dollars and small enough to be carried by anyone without the bulky look of a knife in your pocket. The blade is extremely sharp, however the patented lock back design reduces weight. There is a lanyard clip on the end to place a rope or keychain through. An excellent knife in a small, affordable package. Highly recommended.

I have five of these all over the house, one in the tackle box, one im my soldering kit, one in the tool box, I use one for a moneyclip, and the straight edge version in the office for opening letters and boxes and the like. Its just super handy and doesnt take up any space, always has an edge and isnt oversized for those little cutting tasks. I love it, and the serrations are the perfect size for stripping 20gauge speaker wire, only problem is its so small sometimes i forget i have it and try to go through airport security with it.
