5.0 out of 5 stars Light, Rugged, Quality USA made Knife, June 4, 2008

This review is from: Gerber 06051 Magnum LST Jr - Serrated (Misc.)
Very nice knife, well made and very light yet rugged. MADE IN THE USA in Portland Oregon. This is a great pocket knife and the blade is exactly 2 3/4" at it's longest point. Note: measured from the blade tip to the begining of the handle which is the legal blade length. The handle is exactly 3.5". The 2 3/4" blade means I can conceal it legally in most states (Check your local laws). This knife is not spring assisted and cannot be snapped open with your wrist, which makes some knives illegal in some states. However, I mastered opening it quickly with one hand with very little practice. You can't beat this knife for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love mine, June 29, 2011
This review is from: Gerber 06051 Magnum LST Jr - Serrated (Misc.)
I've had two of these knives (lost the first one) over the past 10 years. I originally bought it for sailing every weekend, which is why I chose the one-handed opening, serrated blade. A drawback for boat use, of course, is that there is no place to attach a lanyard. However, kept sharp, you can be confident it will do its job when needed. I still carry this knife every day as a pocket knife and still love it.

That being said, the $44.85 price is waay too high for this knife on Amazon. You can get it much cheaper (like half) at other sites - hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

This knife is my everyday pocket knife. It's my second, since I lost the first one. It has no clip which is a plus for me because I carry it in my front pocket and want it as thin as possible. At it's widest point it's 7/16" thick. That may sound thick, but the handle swells in the middle giving it just enough shape to hold on to. The closed length is 3.5". I have found that larger knives don't sit in the bottom of your pocket as well as this one. The blade measures 2-3/4". I use this knife for everything from opening packages to cleaning fish, and it's big enough for self defense (I don't feel unarmed when it's in my pocket) The oval thumb hole is so great I don't know why ALL folding knives don't have one just like it. I don't like thumb-studs because they snag on clothes and pockets. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the handle geometry could be more rounded and smooth, less square, but I'm a perfectionist and only give 5 stars if something is perfect (I sanded the handle to shape and it is now perfect) If you want something bigger than a Spyderco Ladybug and smaller than a Buck model 110, and want to carry it everywhere INSIDE your pocket, then the Gerber Magnum LST Jr is just the right size.
