5.0 out of 5 stars 10 years old and as good as new!, September 27, 2002

This review is from: Gerber 06058 Magnum LST Jr Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this knife 10 years ago and I use it almost daily. It never leaves my pocket unless I'm using it. It holds an edge, is easy to open and close and it's small and light. The finger groves on the handle make it easy to hold when using it. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gerber LST jr., September 7, 2010

Up until finding one of these laying in my vehicle yard in Saudi Arabia, I always carried a Victorinox Camper Swiss Army knife. Over the years I would often leave the Swiss at home or in the car because of the bulk, and would rarely use anything but the saw and knife. Also, the Swiss didn't lock. I had been carrying one of those since I was 11.
But....I liked how light and sharp this blade was, and I've been carrying one for 10 years now. I take it everywhere. Even wearing my service uniform, or slacks, it doesn't print and it's so light you'll forget you have it. This is also one of the things I always grab along with my keys and a minibic lighter. I don't mess with any other folder except this one. I've done every knife job imaginable with this knife. I actually prefer it over some kitchen knives at home! Do yourself a favor and get rid of whatever knife you fold up and put in your pocket and get this one, it's tough, mine hasn't ever corroded, and it sharpens quickly and easily.

I've purchased several pocketknives over the years, mostly because I hadn't found one with all the features I wanted until now. This knife is the one I always carry. The knife is light, so you don't notice it in your pocket. The handle has a rough texture which allows you to hold it firmly and safely. The blade is VERY sharp and opens and closes very smoothly. Best of all, this is one of the cheapest knives in its class. You can't go wrong with this one.

I carry small knife, like this Gerber Magnum LST Jr. on my belt everyday and I tell you this, you can't find a nicer, lighter, secure in hand and better looking knife out there for this price range. Let me tell you a little story. I have lost a similar Gerber folding knife. I do not remember the model. It had its release on its side. Anyway, I have lost this knife in my garden during fall harvest. Of course after my loss I have immediately replaced it with an other one and I have long forgotten my loss when next year in a sunny day sometimes during spring time I opened up my compost pile and for my surprise my lost knife surfaced. 6 month in a braking-down compost pile this Gerber knife was just as new as before. Almost, because the steel spring rotted out and slider did not operated smoothly anymore. But, I have lived in Portland Oregon where Gerber company located and I went strait to the factory to show them the knife and told them what happened and they fixed the knife for free. It took them about 5 minutes to do the repair and they thanked me for the story. That says something about Gerber quality and customer support. By the way that was 20 years ago, and I still have that knife, but it is a bit heavy and I like better my new Magnum LST jr. I use it for carving, cutting string, opening packages, eating and much more. Very sturdy and slick with good blade. I highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall good pocket knife for carrying, January 24, 2010

This review is from: Gerber 06058 Magnum LST Jr Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
Overall, it's a pretty good knife for the price. Just the right size for pocket carry without it being too big or too small. Thin and lightweight. Blade is beefy enough. The two finger notches are excellent! Never had a knife like that and those notches make for a very secure grip.

However, a few things prevented me from giving it a 5-star rating.

1. The grinding of the tip area is not even. The right side is grinded more than the left side. See the pictures and some one else's review on Gerber's LST knife. Mine looks just like the picture of the LST. I can't belive that Gerber let's this out of their factory. My $5 Winchester pocket knife from Walmart is grinded evenly left and right.

See link: Gerber 22-06009 L.S.T. Drop Point, Fine Edge Knife

2. No washer between the blade and case siding (left and rigt) resulting in circular scratch marks at the base. Another reviewer mentioned this in the LST in the post above. This is more cosmetic than functional.

3. Spring back seems to be casted incorrectly or not machine finished properly. The finish near the blade pivot end of the spring back appears to have not enough material when casted/forge/etc. or a simple better machining could have remove the cosmetic defect.

I'm tempting to exchange it for another one but these seem to be minor issues. Overall I'm pretty happy for the price paid.

This fine Gerber product has been a constant companion. Frame and locking mechanism has remained tight and it continues to hold it's edge. One fine, US made, pocket knife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pocket knife ever., September 16, 2011
This review is from: Gerber 06058 Magnum LST Jr Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've been carrying one of these for more than ten years. Very light, weighs less than my money clip, and doesn't print on your pants. Easy to resharpen, but still holds an edge pretty well. I feel naked without it. However, I wish they made the handle in hunter orange, so I keep a spare just in case I loose it (I dropped one in a lake a couple of years ago).

I have had a knife of some sort on me for 30 years now. Usually a large folder of some sort or another. I had a Gerber LST magnum (the full size one) on my hip the first time I saw my wife, and so I always thought the Gerber knives were a good luck blade for me. The first time I worked with her, I used it to clip a thread on her skirt. Well, this is the same knife, only smaller. It is nice and stiff, just as a new knife should be. It locks firmly into place, and unlocks easily. It will smooth out a bit with use, and in a month or two of use, it will be slick. I got this knife for my Nephew's Christmas presant next Christmas. he will be 12 years old, and ready for his first knife. Uncle steve will be the favorite uncle this year.

Good little knife. Got mine at Amazon just shy of 2 years ago. Carry it everywhere. Use it for everyday pocket knife stuff and cleaning the occasional squirrel. Holds edge and continues to perform like the day I took it out of the package.
