This is a wonderful knife if you like a folder that is a bit larger and has a big grip. I think it is a perfect folder for the truck. I like most things about my Gerber gator, but after owning this for more than ten years, the pin in the back is loose and wants to wiggle out. It even came out on a backpacking trip about 3 years ago. I happened to find the pin on the ground, so I was lucky. After that this knife no longer goes with me into the woods, but stays at home or in the truck. I am sure I can find a way to keep the pin in better, but have not found the time to work on it. As I have many many knives, this has not been a high priority.

Mine held an edge fine, and was also easy enough to sharpen.

In general, I would rate this product a solid 4 stars, but I am knocking one off for my experience with the pin. I reserve 5 stars for gear that is flawless in function and quality, and while Gerber Gators are an excellent value, I don't feel that they are a 5 star product.

A great product like this is going to be hard to beat. Gerber got it right when they came up with the Gator grip... The abilities of the knife are endless... The blade is sharp and good, sharpening was not a problem, I have had more than my share of knives and I appreciate the hardness of the blade because it holds an edge relatively well and reduces the need for lots of sharpening... however using a steel routinely helps drastically.

This is my third gerber gator so yes I like them the metal sharpens easy and holds its edge well and does not rust although it is a little brittle. Ive pried a bit with it or used it as a flat blade driver from time to time so Ive punished them well and broken them over the last 10-15 yrs. The blade does not flex much at all before it breaks, but its a knife and not a driver or prybar I do abuse them. The handle has a great grip and the blade lock is very well made one of my concerns with a folding knife.The knife is made in USA and the holster is made in china.
