This review is from: Gerber 06149 Folding Gator-Mate Clip Point Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
This knife is very sharp and durable i am not sure how they measure the blade but I found that measuring it from the where the edge of the blade starts to where it ends is 3 inches not 2.75 inches with the actual length of the open knife a little over 7 inches. The knife is very light and has a great rubber handle the handle at first seemed to be really soft and i figured it was a weak and flexible handle but I found that its very very strong and stiff with a very nice grip. The action on it is very smooth and easy to open and close the only thing that I dont like is that it doesnt have a little knob to help open it with one hand but I can almost open it with just one hand. The blade is very sharp (I can shave with it) just like all gerber knives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Knife but handle only last 10 years., July 20, 2009

This review is from: Gerber 06149 Folding Gator-Mate Clip Point Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have had this Knife for nearly 13 years! I have used it as an everyday carry knife for all that time. However about 3 years ago, when the Knife was about 10 years old the rubber coating on the handle began to flake and peel off. I tried hard to keep it from happening. Last year, when the Knife was 12 years old, the handle coating just began to disintegrate and fall of as sort of a powder type residue. It made a huge mess, leaving this black rubbery dust in my pocket, on my hands, and in the sheath when I used it. (Yes the sheath shows signs of wear but is still quite functional.) The residue from the handle began to jam up the moving parts of the knife preventing it from locking, or even opening. So I just decided to rub off all the coating. I was able to do this with my bare thumbs. It just fell off in a nasty powdery mess. I had to pull the coating from the inside of the handle out with needle nose players, the only part of the coating that remained in tact. Anyway I still use the knife every day and I am left with a light weight plastic type handle similar to Gerber's L.S.T. model, but shaped different.
