101 uses, I love them!,

This review is from: Gerber 12-Pack Flatfold Birdseye Cloth Diapers - White (Baby Product)
A friend recommended I register for these although she knew I was planning to use disposable diapers. I accidentally registered for the diapers with the absorbent centerfold, and fortunately, received these. They are large - 27"x 27" square and are essential for baby care. I still use them every day and my son is almost a year old. I used them to line his cradle and changing-table when he was first born and going through many diapers a day. They work great as burp cloths, and are superb for wiping up other food messes. Additionally, I found they work as a light blanket during the summer months. Extremely durable, fold-up rather small for travel, and launder well. 101 uses, I love them!

Useless for diapers, not the same as sold in 2006,
This review is from: Gerber 12-Pack Flatfold Birdseye Cloth Diapers - White (Baby Product)
In 2006, I bought a dozen of the Gerber flat diapers. I liked them. They were a good weave, strong twist cotton. However, I went back to purchase more later and was sadly disappointed. The company had changed the fabric, weave, and how they were made. The old ones had a woven selvage and were serged on the ends with a soft thread. The new ones were serged all around, and used a different thread that was not soft. I returned the new ones, and wore out my old ones. A couple of times a year I open a package in the store to see if they are any different, but have not seen any positive changes.
For anyone who wants to use them as rags or light towels, they may be just fine, but for diapers, they are nothing compared to the older ones. I also tried the prefolds with the "absorbent" middle. I finally cut one open after finding they would not hold even one ounce of liquid (lay diaper in colander, over a large bowl, pour one ounce water onto diaper, then measure what falls into the bowl) and discovered that they are filled with polyester batting. The batting makes them soft and puffy, but polyester does not absorb liquid. If you want flat diapers, look online for Indian or Chinese flats, or, maybe even something made in the USA! Same with prefolds. Gerber makes good pins and nice baby clothes, but don't waste time and money on their cloth diapers.

A must-have....,

When I received these at my baby shower, I thought "What is this?...slightly cheap seeming diapers?" When I brought Baby home I soon saw how practical they are. Thin, yes! But simply fold them in half and it will take point-blank projectile vomits without any problem. We use them ALL the time, lifesavers really. Great for wiping drooly little chins and messy little hands. I give them now as shower gifts....the workhorse of the nursery. I am using my first set with baby #2.

THE ONLY THING TO USE,
By A Customer

It's amazing what people will spend there money on today. Just to throw it away! I've used these same diapers on my children (all 3 of them!) and then I've used the SAME ONES on my GRANDCHILDREN! Have mercy, can you just imagine? I bought this very brand of diapers (4 dozen to be exact) 25 years ago and I'm still using the very same diapers. Yes, they are great for spit rags, burp rags, wipe up rags, dust rags, and just about anything else you can think of. And, I only bought once! That was the best part. Can't beat them.

An indispensable buy!,

These diapers are PERFECT as burp cloths and mini-towels. We used them as burp cloths when our daughter was an infant, and we continue to use them to wipe messy faces after meals, as well as to wipe runny noses during teething. We keep them all over the house! Be careful though - there are two types, one with padding and one without - make sure to get the ones without, as the ones with extra padding are useless in this capacity. (They make great car shammies, though!)

Disappointed,
By A Customer
This review is from: Gerber 12-Pack Flatfold Birdseye Cloth Diapers - White (Baby Product)
I registered for these diapers and was very disappointed. I wish I would have gotten another kind. These have been washed only a few times and not even dryed in the dryer. These have all kinds of pilling and strings coming apart. I don't think these will last very long. Save yourself the money and buy regular burp cloths or another type of diaper.

Too thin,

Whether you are using these diapers for diapering or for burp cloths, I suggest you look at the version with the padded absorbent center. This version is too thin to serve as either a burp cloth or for diapering. However, the same brand, with the absorbent center pad, is much better.

One of the greatest things to have around. Cleaning up after my baby, as a burp cloth, etc... A must have for all parents!

Useless for diapering or burp cloths,
By sweynicz (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gerber 12-Pack Flatfold Birdseye Cloth Diapers - White (Baby Product)
I have experience with other brands of flat diaper cloths. I needed more, so I bought a pack of Gerbers and I was very disappointed. They are as thin as gauze and spit-up runs right though them. The edges are finished with some kind of cheap polyester felt that lacks any absorbency and frays easily. The Gerber cloths shrank so much that I can't possibly use them as diapers even if I tried.
If these were named "utility cloths," I could understand. But calling them diapers is a joke. Gerber used to be known for quality, but these are junk. |
